Digital camera reviews of Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld

Digital camera Review: A real step down from a Sony Clie'
Summary: 2 Stars

I've been forced to switch from the tried and true Sony Clie' I bought more than 5 years ago to a Palm, due to a software compatibility issue. Not having a keyboard incorporated into the device slows things down tremendlously and forces me to use both hands to enter grafiti. The Palm is chunky and awkward to hold compared to the elegant design of the Clie'.

Digital camera Review: A stable Handy PDA
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my second PDA to replace a Palm Zire 71, which I found to my dismay to have a very short battary life, and a non-replaceable battary.
The E2 is great. The graphics are vivid, crisp and impressive. The programming is easier than with my Zire 71.
It does more than I need, and was affordably priced.
My only minor complaint is that the screen display seems slightly delayed when writing text onto the screen. The letters I write seen to have a slightly longer than I am used to before they appear on screen.

Digital camera Review: A total disaster!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been using Palm for 7 years by now, and Tungsten E2 is the 3rd Palm I have bought. Unfortunately, this Palm is a total disaster because:-

1) The screen starts to scream like crazy after several days of use. Their technical hotline people confirms they found it a common problem of their new generation of Palm devices BUT REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP! They refused to replace it because they claimed that the creaming screen problem will come back sooner or later. Ironically they recommended a third-party software that they claim it reduce the annoying noise, but at my cost!

2) I have accumulated nearly 1200 of contacts in my Palm, and it became IMPOSSIBLE for me to search for a person's contact because the global find function CAN ONLY DISPLAY THE FIRST 8 MATCHES. That means if I have 20 contacts with first name "Peter", and I use the Find function to locate "Peter"... I will never see the 9th to 20th "Peter"s. Unlike previous Palms that if I click on "Find more" it returns the next batch of matches, this Tungsten_E2_piece_of_junk will return you the same 1st to 8th matches even I click on "Find more". I email their support, they admitted it and refused to help any further than recommending another 3rd-party software that will again cost me extra money!

THUS... I believe that NOBODY SHOULD SPEND THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY ON A CRAPPY THING LIKE THIS!

I do want to want you to be aware of these problems, and Palm has known it for some time and has done nothing to fix them. (Apparently, according to other Internet newsgroup discussion, their newer models such as T5 also has same problems.) Do the search and you will find...

Digital camera Review: Absolute piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

Warning, this is a compete waste of money! First off, if your Palm has a problem after the warranty, there is zero customer service. You will be relegated to the forums where other pathetic owners trade ideas on how to fix this electronic piece of junk. Your sync conduits will get screwed up and you'll get messages saying your "note pad" is the wrong program (of course it's a Palm program but it and your Palm desktop won't speak the same language anymore). You'll go to the palm support website where you will search for answers using the search function but the site doesn't go anywhere unless you start at Google, and your search results in a Palm support page addressing your problem. There Palm will offer you "support" downloads like the "PIMS update". Well I just downloaded it and now my Tungsten E2 just keeps trying to turn itself on. Forums will advise you to perform a "hard reset" which isn't working. These items are a nightmare.

Digital camera Review: Absolutely Fine
Summary: 5 Stars

Mistake #1 - I read the reviews and bought the Zire (Z22).
Mistake #2 - Didn't see that the Zire has a tiny screen.
-
After owning an IIIxe since 2000 I had planned to upgrade to color, but the Zire had a smaller screen and so I shipped it back.
Now I've got the E2 and all those other negative and picky reviews are insignificant to the owner pleasure the E2 brings. 1) nice touch screen that's more sensitive 2) no up and down button required just tap the screen 3) relearning a couple new letters not a big deal 4) Seamless Bluetooth sync with my MAC (wow wow wow)

Con - I miss the flip up cover on my E2 (big deal? no.)
