Digital camera reviews of PalmOne Ultra Thin Keyboard for Palm m130, Tungsten, m515, and i705 series

Digital camera Review: Wish that it worked!
Summary: 1 Stars

This gorgeous, engineering marvel - a full-size keyboard that's about the size of a pop tart when folded - would be great if it worked! Mine was defective, producing random characters, skipping letters and the like. Palm tech support was very nice and told me that a month ago, 30% of these keyboards were coming out of the box defective. Now (mid-April 03), he said, it's more like 50%. I did the whole new drivers drill, hard resets etc. to no avail. I returned mine and am very disppointed at the waste of time and money. If you end up buying this item, I hope you are one of the lucky ones who gets one that works!

Digital camera Review: Works great, dead technology
Summary: 2 Stars

This is just about the coolest little keyboard you can find. It is light, portable, and it responds as well as a normal keyboard. The one downside, which I recently discovered, is that it won't work with the newer class of Palm Devices, explaining why it is so inexpensive now. When I first purchased a keyboard, it was to go along with a Zire 71 handheld. That handheld died, forcing me to upgrade to the newer Zire 72. Much to my surprise, Palm changed the connection for their PDA's, rendering the wonderful little typing device useless.
So, if you are using one of the older models that it can work with, I would certainly say that it is a good buy. But, I would not count on it to last you for generations of Palm devices to come.

Digital camera Review: Would be nice if it worked
Summary: 1 Stars

What for many people has been an excellent product, for another set, including myself, this keyboard is a disaster. For no apparent reason, this keyboard does not interface properly with a variety of handhelds with the Palm Universal Connector.

Affected handhelds include the m515, m505, m500, and m130. The difficulty lies in that it is not possible (or at least it is not generally known) how to tell when it will work or not. When connected, typing produces random characters. Updated drivers, including unreleased internal drivers have not solved the problem. Even a hard reset with the driver as the only installed program has not helped.

While this keyboard is certainly more attractive and smaller than its predecessor, the previous version now offers much better compatibility for a lower price.

Digital camera Review: very practical and good
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought my ultra thin keyboard from a [local sore]. So, I had the opportunity to try it out before buying. I am glad I didnt totally write this keyboard off after reading some of the negative comments...The keyboard works fine with my Tungsten T2 and I am quite comfortable typing on it. I was particularly worried that it may not have cursor keys as it could be frustrating but was surprised to find that it actually has the cursor keys. Typing numbers off and on in a sentence can be a hassle because it can only be typed in combination with a function key. However, if working on a spreadsheet with pure numbers, it shouldnt be a problem because there is a numlock function. On the whole, the keyboard is fantastic. Would have given 5 stars if there is a separate numeric keypad ...
