Some of the best money I have ever spent was on the Palm Vx. I use it constantly throughout the day! Complete with shareware and freeware programs such as Due Yesterday and PowerOne Graph, you can replace those bulky graphing calculators and planners, take notes with the grafiti, and make an end to those paper notebooks.The Palm Vx is a simple, small, and strong handheld device. It is on par and works very well. One thing that won't last long is that shoddy leather case that comes in the box. I will probably get a metal case in the near future. Also, the serial cradle can be mindnumbingly slow when synchronizing lots of data such as webpages in AvantGo.
You most likely won't be able to find a new Palm Vx now, but there are many great handhelds out there with great value. Its chief competitor would be the Handspring Visor Edge. If you pay a little more, you'll get a more updated version of the Vx, the m500, with a useless expansion card and Palm OS 4.0, which may have compatibility issues with some programs. At these plummeting prices, a PDA in this world is a must.

I have the Palm IIIxe and I purchased this Vx for my son who is heading for college. This little item, which we equiped with the Landware GoType and keyboard will be able to take just as many class notes as a laptop, and is much lighter and cheaper. It certainly does not take the place of the laptop - but the way we see it, the less he needs to carry that computer around, the longer it will last.I find, personally, that this little item can take the place of the laptop in may ways, and the 8 MG's is a LOT of storage. I have found it nearly impossible to load that much space up. I have a total of 32 different add-ons - one which holds a few books, another websites, and another holds many, many documents and databases! All that and I am only using 3892K (about half of the storage).

I have had my Palm Vx for a little over a year. While it worked, it was great. However, the battery will no longer hold a charge. Since there is no way to replace the battery, I have to send it to Palm and they will send me a new one for.... Of course, I will lose any data that I haven't stored in my desktop (which is about a month of data for me). I think all of the newer Palms have replaceable batteries so I would highly recommend one of these.Digital camera Review: Sweet

The Vx is very light, ideal for school. I use it for school, it is small and light to fit in my pocket. The Vx has tons of memory, and games play great. This palm is well worth it's price.Digital camera Review: How did I get along without it?

I love my palm Vx. I put alarms for all my meetings, appointments, my daughter's school functions, birthdays etc. I make notes on things that need to be done and my phone directory is always with me. The only improvements I hope will be made is that phone functions will be added and the calendar can show a week or month of appointments at once.
