When I went looking for a new cordless phone I wanted some pretty specific things: answering machine, changeable easy to find batteries, expandable, and it had to be digital. Answering machine is an easy to explain reason. I really wanted batteries I could replace without spending a fortune (you can buy replacement batteries almost anywhere since they are AAA). In this day and age it's smart to have a digital cordless phone rather than a analog phone for security reasons. While it's just my wife and I now in a small house, it might be nice to the ability to expand at some point.
I really like the phone. I have not had a problem with the batteries dying as some have said. If I did I would just go buy new rechargeable batteries. One review said the batteries were poor and they used the phone until the batteries died and then charged the phone. DON'T DO THAT. That's the reason the batteries are poor. Any time a rechargeable battery runs completely dead there is less capacity on the next charge. Also, you do need to charge the batteries fully before using the first time or, again the next time the capacity will be diminished.
Overall, I have loved this phone. I have not had any problem with volume, battery life, speaker phone, or any of the other features. Buy it and if you get the Amazon expanded warranty you'll be worry free.
