this is a nice receiver. I haven't had it quite long enough to tell you if the drop and splash resistance is really there but it is bigger framed than the regular handsets. I would guess putting more plastic around the electronics gives you more protection.
I have just switched to this from a uniden system and I like the reliability of panasonic better but this upper end model lacks the creature comforts and refinements my uniden had. First of all it doesn't offer speed dial? and second of all for voicemail you have to access it through a menu. on the uniden if you had a voicemail the first thing it would ask you when you picked up the handset was if you wanted to retrieve it. and the font on the screen is kind of small. but all things considered these are convenience and i bought this phone knowing all this in favor of panasonic's reliability.

This is a great product that I added on to my existing phone set. It says it's waterproof, but I haven't had the chance to actually test that out. We bought it to keep it in the pool area, so if we HAD to take a call in the pool, we could. Plus, accidental dropping is always a possibility. It has a very rugged feel, and the battery compartment latches closed with seals, so it seems pretty waterproof to me. Ordered these to expand a cordless set I already have. Easy to link up, and no problems at this point. I am impressed with ease of use and quality thus far.
Advice: If you are looking to expand a cordless set, be sure that the expansion sets you get are compatible with what you already have (I missed on the first attempt). Not all Panasonic DECT handsets are compatible with all systems.

This handset has worked flawlessly for the one month we've had it. It completes our land line system with one handset on each of the three levels of our house. I especially like the feature that automatically shares the phone book entries among all three handsets whenever any updates are made to any one handset.
