Digital camera reviews of Panasonic DMP-BD30K 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Freezes, Freezes, Freezes!
Summary: 1 Stars

This dvd player freezes up aaallll the time. I never had this problem with Sony's Playstation 3. The PS3 played all Blue Ray dvds flawlessly, but this Panasonic freezes up two to three times per movie. And it's not like I mistreated it or that the movies are dirty. These are brand new movies. I'll try to claim the warranty and follow-up with another review once I deal with Panasonic. Wish me luck!!!
This is my second review for this product. On my previous review I reported that I was having trouble with this product freezing up all the time. Well, the freezing up mysteriously stopped. For the past two months it has worked near flawlessly. I have noticed that the price for this item has almost doubled (as of this review Amazon has it at $499.00). I paid less than $300.00 for mine. Anyway, I may follow up with an update on this product, if anything changes (if the freezing up returns).

Digital camera Review: Go Panasonic! Great BD Player
Summary: 5 Stars

Well I have to first state that I initially bought an HD-DVD player and was very pleased. It's not looking good for that format and since I'm not a fan of Sony's I looked to Panasonic for my purchase of a BD player. I've always had good luck with Panasonic products and after doing some research I decided to get this one. Easy set up and fast load times. I have not done a firmware update yet and probably won't until I see a need. I only have a 1080i set (a 5 year old Pioneer Elite 64" HDTV - rear projection). This player is hooked up with component and while I can't compete with 1080p I am still blown away by the difference between HD and SD discs. I'm in no position to upgrade TVs yet as the Pioneer cost a fortune but this player should help me get a few more years out of my set - unless they start down-converting for folks who don't have HDMI connections which would be me. But anyway this player is great! I've only had it a couple of days but that is my first impression - hope I didn't just jinx it. lol

Digital camera Review: Good picture and audio lacking features
Summary: 2 Stars

Overall Panasonic makes great electronics but they've cut this player in half with features. It lacks many things that other HD players selling for 3 times less price have including ethernet/online accessibility, internal audio decoding (you will need an external audio/video receiver in order to take full advantage of the quality) and a few beefs here and there worth less mention.

The problem I've stumbled up is that no Blu-Ray standalone player will play all features of upcoming discs. I'm not sure why I needed to pay the premium at all when I'm getting an incomplete product.

For example, a Toshiba HD-A35 or A30 HD players sell here on Amazon for $[...] and have absolutely every imaginable feature with stellar sound and video quality.

After research, I found out what the problem with Blu-Ray is:
[...]

Fortunately Amazon is great and I managed to return this Panasonic player as I will be waiting for a Profile 2.0 player that has all features. In the meantime I'll be enjoying HD on Toshiba players.

Digital camera Review: Great Blu-Ray
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a Blu-ray player; however, knowing nothing about the performance of these, I contacted my brother who is very knowledgable about electronics. He recommended the Panasonic and I was extremely pleased. He set it up for me and am now watching everything on my large screen TV in Blue-ray. Love it and would highly recommend this.

Digital camera Review: Great Blu-Ray Player
Summary: 5 Stars

With HD-DVD gone with the wind, I purchased this player as a high definition (Blu-Ray) disc source to replace my 2nd generation Toshiba HD-DVD player. Although still not as fast as your standard DVD player, I found significant peformance improvment in starting up and reading discs compared to earlier generation high-definition players.

My player is connected via HDMI to a Sony VPL-VW50 (1080p) projector and is projected on a 100" screen. Blu-Ray picture quality is vivid with great sound effects. Setup was very easy and the player has operated flawlessly. Standard DVDs also play with very good picture quality. The player appears to have good DVD upconversion to 1080p.

I upgraded my firmware from version 1.6 to 1.8 using a CD-R by downloading the update from the Panasonic website. The CD-Rs which I created using Vista (tried various formattings) gave an error message and ejected the disc. An earlier post mentions the need to create ISO compliant disk. I used a freeware Express Burn (nch.com.au)to create the CD-R data disk which worked.

The player has good quality fit and finish. The remote is easy to read, though could use a backlight.

I noticed the player is now directly avaiable from Amazon (free shipping with Prime) at about 10% off what others are charging.
