Digital camera reviews of Panasonic DMP-BD30K 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Great Blue Ray Player
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Panasonic Blue Ray DMP-BD30 only a week ago (Mar 08). List Price $499.95. I hooked it up to a Samsung 46" flat-panel using HDMI connections. One cord cord carries both video and audio at best possible signal. It took me 3 weeks to receive the equipment.

When it arrived it took me no more than 5 minutes to unpack it, hook it up and start playing a Blue Ray disc. Simply plug the HDMI cord from the player to the TV and hook up the power cord. That is it. When you turn the equipment on it walks you about three steps using your remote (one minute). I popped in the disc and had a gorgeous 1020P picture up immediately. No waiting around like so many post talk about. When I pressed open tray there was no delay. When I pressed Play it took no more than 5-10 seconds for the picture to be playing. It was as fast as my old Sony HD Player. The picture was superior. You will need to supply your own HDMI cord if you plan on using one and I strongly recommend you order it at the same time you order your Blue Ray. Also have a Blue Ray disk on hand to check it out.

I had read several post that this equipment would not work with a Samsung TV. FORGET THAT as it works perfectly. I cannot imagine a better Blue Ray Player if it exist. Great picture, fast operation, simple to use. Pause and go get a drink and resume where you left off. I looked for several weeks at various players and this one had the best reviews. So many of the reviews for other equipment talked about problematic Firmware updates, Slow response, and other problems. I have none of these. I give this equipment 5 stars. There were no available firmware updates so I have not tried that. Look no further than Panasonic for a Blue Ray Player in my opinion.

This equipment can be firmware updated. You can download the firmware off the internet from Panasonic and burn it on to a DVD or CD and install it on your Blue Ray or you can ask Panasonic to send you the upgrade firmare disc. There has been one firmware upgrade since i purchasex the unit. Not all Blue Ray players have the capablility to upgrade the firmware. This is rather important so when buying a blue ray be sure and ask if can be firmware upgraded.

Digital camera Review: Great Player. Just updated firmware to 1.6
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! What a great player. I just bought this with my tax refund, and I'm glad I did. I'm running it on my 50" 720p/1080i plasma, and it's crystal clear. No need for a 1080p. I'm not rich enough to spend the extra money for a 1080p. I had bought my Plasma on a clearance sale for $800, along with my clearance sale surround sound at a store closeout. Anyways, this player is great for surround sound, running it 7.1 on my pioneer elite sound system and Klipsch speaker set. Just to clarify on updating the firmware, I downloaded the 1.6 firmware from the website onto my computer, then burned it to a CD-R. I had problems the first time around because I did not finalize the CD-R after burning it. If you do not finalize the CD-R, the player will begin to read the disc but then eject it with a message saying LFVU. So finalize your CD-R when you burn the firmware to a CD-R. The 1.6 firmware improves the output level of Low Frequency Effects Channel and HDMI compatibility issues with some Plasma TVs.

Digital camera Review: Great Unit But Overpriced.
Summary: 4 Stars

For what it does, I give it a definite thumbs up! Was reading the reviews about the Sony and Samsung Blu-Ray players, didn't want to wait 3-5 min for a disc to play, so I got the Panasonic. No waiting at all, just load the disc and your on your way.
Very easy to operate, and downloading the firmware upgrade was a snap.
I can't fully appreciate the capabilities of this player yet, I have a 1080i LCD. But when you see a movie in 1080p, you'll be blown away.
Gonna get the Bravia XBR series, just waiting for a price reduction.
Although this is a great unit, I can't understand the price, come on, $500 is steep.

Digital camera Review: Great Video and seemless with a Panasonic HD Camcorder
Summary: 4 Stars

My first foray into the HD world was really the combination of the Panasonic HDC-SD5 HD camcorder and this BD player. I wanted to be able to readily view the HD footage I was taking on the camera and this player purported to do just that. It does. I can take the SD card from the camera and slide it into the player. It perfectly acceses the data. If I burn HD content onto a DVD-R with the burner included with the camcorder, the discs are read beautifully by the BD player in 1080i. It really is seemless and exactly what I was looking for. It looks as if Blu Ray will eventually prevail, but I have no real stake in that issue. I still have only a 1080i TV. The player nicely upconverts SD DVDs - they do look a little sharper and more vibrant. Blu Ray discs look great; I'm simply astonished by the video quality. It is not the quantum leap that DVDs were from VHS, but then I haven't hooked a BD to a 1080p TV yet! Anyway, I recomend the player and also recomend the camcorder.

Digital camera Review: Great all-around player
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted a player for BD,DVD and other media and this one does it all. The price was quite modist. It shows off my HD tv.
