Digital camera reviews of Panasonic DMP-BD35K 1080p Blu-ray Player

Digital camera Review: $589? A joke right?
Summary: 1 Stars

I guess the sellers are hoping people on Amazon are high on drugs to spend that much money. You could get this for the low $200 range. I saw it for $225 around Christmas. $589 makes me happy these places are going out of business.

Digital camera Review: $749??? Are they nuts?????
Summary: 1 Stars

No Blu Ray is worth $749. The retail is $299, which is ok. Amazon needs to stop advertising prices that are a rip off, especially in this weak economy.

Digital camera Review: A good player, but some caveats...
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently purchased this player, and along with it I got two blu-ray disks to go with it: Space Ace (game) and Starship Troopers (which has BD-Live support).

The unit is nice and clean, with a slick look to it and some good features. Picture and sound quality through the HDMI cable to the wide-screen HDTV are both very good.

I discovered, much to my dismay, that the player won't play the Space Ace game. (And before someone suggests it, I used the network connection to make sure it had the latest firmware installed at this point.) It will play the movie all the way through via the "watch" special feature, but actually *playing* the game doesn't work. It will go through a short way in, and then just seize up - picture & sound both stop. All I can do at that point is eject the disk. I'm hoping that a future firmware update will fix this problem.

I also discovered something a bit odd about the player: Once I had the network port plugged in, I couldn't get Starship Troopers to load. I'd put the disk in, it would churn for a while, and then just stop the disk altogether, leaving you staring at the blue screen with the blu-ray logo that it displays when it's not doing anything. After doing some searching on the net, I found someone mentioning that you *must* have a SD card inserted in the appropriate slot for the player to play the Starship Troopers disk. I understand that a SD card is needed for BD-Live to download the content to, but I wouldn't have expected the card to be needed unless you were going to actually access it via the disk special features menu. The player doesn't make this known to you via any type of error message on the screen, it just stops the disk. I don't know if this is true for all BD-Live enabled disks since I only have the one at the time, but it sure is true for this one particular title. So if you put a BD-Live disk into this player while you have the network cable plugged into it and the disk doesn't start up, check to see if you've got a SD card with at least 1 gig of storage on it inserted.

All in all, it's a nice player and I like it, although it would be nice if instead of just stopping because there's no SD card it actually gave you a meaningful message instead of leaving you staring at the Blu-Ray logo screen wondering what's wrong.

Oh, and being able to play Space Ace on it would have been nice, too. :-)

Digital camera Review: A non-technophile's perspective -- OUTSTANDING!

UPDATE: Since writing this review, I have discovered that when the Blu-Ray player is connected via HDMI, there is apparently a hand-shaking problem issue that causes our LG Plasma TV to repeatedly "power-cycle" (shut down and then come back on). After reading several internet forums, I learned that this is a fairly common problem with HDMI cables and Blu-Ray players). We have gone back to using Monster Z300SV-8M Ultra High Resolution S-Video Cable (8 meters)and this has fixed the problem with no apparent degradation in picture.

My husband is the expert on video components and technology and as a result, he makes most of the decisions about what types of equipment to purchase. When we upgraded to an Mitsubishi LT-46149 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Integrated Sound Projector upstairs and a LG 60PS80 60-Inch 1080p Broadband Plasma HDTV downstairs this year, he researched BluRay players and based on the specs, this one was among the best. At first, I wasn't even sure we needed to upgrade our DVD player -- seemed like the old one was pretty clear -- especially with the new TVs.

Then we purchased this and popped in "Cars" -- the only Blu-Ray disk that we had and which was given to us. I was blown away by the difference in color and clarity associated with the Blu-Ray player and disk over our regular DVD player. One of my favorite movies is Seabiscuit which has beautiful cinematography (particularly the scene in upstate NY in the fall where Seabiscuit goes galloping through the woods). While the scene has always been my favorite, it now becomes a work of art in Blu-Ray.

I confess that I also love dance movies and these also come alive like never before on Blu-Ray. Again, I was skeptical about the upgrade but having this player has made me fall in love with my favorite movies all over again... now I just have to go out and spend a small fortune replacing my DVD library to take full-advantage of the picture and technology. Oh well...

Digital camera Review: ALOT FOR YOUR BUCK
Summary: 5 Stars

i remember when i bought my first panisonic bd player was model DMP-BD10K at the time it was rated one of the best buy CNET. There were a couple other bd players out there cheaper that i purchased on sale hooked them up but didnt come close to the BD10 in quality for picture and sound output. So when i seen the panasonic BD-35 for a good price on amazon i picked it up was only upgrading for all the new BD-live stuff and once again was very pleased with the quality of picture and sound since i already have a onkyo reciever that plays all the 7.1 formatted sound i didnt need the BD-50 or 55 not sure what it was put out there for people that have older home suround systems. So once again 5 stars go out to panasonic for a great product.
