Digital camera reviews of Panasonic Dect 6.0 Series 4 Handset Cordless Phone System with Answering System (KX-TG1034S)Digital camera Review: A Winner Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great telephone. We were looking for a replacement for our older 2.4GHz phone which had two handsets...some of the buttons didn't work very well and it suffered from interference in the kitchen when using the microwave. Was thinking 5.8GHz and hadn't heard of Dect 6.0; check out [...]
This phone is getting close to a cell phone in terms of features...full display (monochrome), multi-segment battery meter, phone book, multiple selectable ring tones, call timer, each handset has a speakerphone, etc. The menus and voice prompt for the answering machine can do english or spanish. One interesting aspect is that many programmable items are done on a per-handset basis, so for example one handset could have its own unique ring tone. Address book entries can be entered into any handset and then kept local to that handset or transferred over to a specific handset or to all handsets. When we got the phone I put in about 15 numbers, and then in a single 5 second operation transferred all those entries to all of the other handsets.
One thing I've always hated about cordless phones is that replacement batteries are typically expensive and use outdated (NiCd) technology. This phone however uses two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries in each handset. So no more searching for a replacement battery specifically made for this phone.
Only two quibbles. The answering machine does not display how many messages there are, there's just a single light that flashes (on the base unit, as well as on each handset if desired (programmable)) if there are any new messages. If you listen to and keep one message and delete the others, the new message light goes out and there's no way to tell by looking at the unit that any messages are stored. This is an issue in the following situation: When I listen to messages and save one because it's for my wife, then when she comes home she looks and doesn't see any indicator that there's a message waiting. So each of us needs to get into the habit of pressing the message button to check regardless of whether or not the light is flashing. The answering machine CAN be disabled however (and each handset can be set to display a message waiting indicator when using voicemail from the phone company). Total message time capacity is 16 minutes including the outgoing message.
Other minor beef, and this is very minor, is that only two handsets can be used concurrently for a call. So you can't have the whole family on their own handset talking to grandpa. But honestly we've never used more than 2 phones at a time so this isn't really an issue, but it would be nice.
This phone can be purchased with four handsets (base unit plus 3 additional), or with 2, 3, or 5 handsets. Functionally they are identical. Each is expandable up to a total of 6 handsets.
Digital camera Review: A quality product thoughtfully designed. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a DECT 6 phone that eliminates wireless interference and has great sound quality and range. You simply plug in the base unit to the land line then distribute the other phones to wherever you want where there is an electrical outlet. This not only gives you telephones where you want but also an intercom system to be used all over the house.
All of my Panasonic phones have lasted and lasted but what I really like about their products is the intuitive way they designed the controls. Like a Toyota or a Honda, even if you don't have a manual you can pretty much figure out how to use the phone, their controls make sense.
They have also been thoughtful in the options they add, most of them are useful and you will actually use them at some point.
Digital camera Review: A very nice phone system Summary: 4 Stars
We have one phone at each end of the house, one in the Office (center) and the other in the shop outside. They all work flawlessly and I'm very pleased with them. The delivery was very prompt in spite of the fact that I ordered them just before Christmas.
I only have one minor complaint and I would like the phones to have more volume for the audio.
Digital camera Review: After a ten year wait, a phone I can love Summary: 5 Stars
I've been griping about the land line phones for years. I have 3 of them in my house, 900MHz, and 5.8Ghz. Gripes: none of them covered the whole house, their batteries kept dying, and with everyone in the neighbourhood putting up their WiFi, the interference was bad. When I saw the new Pannys, I did not hope for much, too often my new purchases were disappointing. But, at $120, I could not resist.
The phones came, and I am in heaven. They work all around the house, up to 80ft from the base. The do not interfere with my WiFi. The sound is clear. They look good, and have sensible menus. Their batteries are standard AAA rechargeables. You can use 2 handsets at the same time. And the over the top bonus feature: you can turn off that loud keypress beep, so you can dial quietly.
My secret twin must have been part of the focus group when they designed this one.
