Digital camera reviews of Panasonic KX-TG6702B 2-Line 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Expandable Cordless Phone System with 2 Handsets

Digital camera Review: Good handset but poor headset jacks
Summary: 3 Stars

While this phone has lots of good features -- especially clear reception for a pretty good distance using the handset's regular speaking method -- the jacks for a headset give tinny, soft sound, especially to the person you're calling.

If you don't need to use a headset with your phone, don't worry about it (sound quality is good when not using a headset), but I talk on the phone all day for work, and need decent sound quality through a headset. Two good-quality headsets which have worked on other phones on both of these Panasonic units made me sound quiet and far away.

The range was much better than the 2ghz phone I had before.

The interface for saving numbers to dial is a little clumsy, requiring several buttons to get to the saved list, which I found annoying.

Digital camera Review: Good phone system.
Summary: 5 Stars

Does everything it should. Easy to setup and use. Hard to find a 2 line phone system so I was pleased to find this.

Digital camera Review: Good phone, but room for improvement
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this phone for about a month. I like the phone's many features, especially the speaker capability built into the handsets, and would buy it again. However, there are a few things, one especially, that Panasonic could improve on.

(a)Missed call list - While for some things, the handsets coordinate with each other (e.g., phone #s entered into one handset can easily be copied to all other handsets; date/time set on one handset sets it on all), when a call is answered using another phone in the house, it shows as a "missed call" on ALL handsets. IOW, the handsets do not recognize that the call was answered. Even worse, a call answered on one handset records as a missed call on ALL other handsets. In addition, deleting missed calls from one handset does NOT remove them for the others; you must delete them individually from each handset. The phone can have up to 8 handsets. If I needed more than the 2 handsets that came with it, this malfunction would cause me not to buy the phone. It's the #1 thing Panasonic needs to fix.
(b)The clarity of the speaker for the base unit answering machine is poor, to the point that it's often difficult or impossible to understand the person's name or the phone number they left. Luckily, unless the caller blocks their ID, the handset captures the number as a missed call, so you can get it from that, but it may not show the person's name, only part of a company name.
(c)Although the phone is advertised as a "5.8GHz Digital Gigarange", it's not necessarily "gigarange"; depends on where you put the base unit. I have the base in my basement office. The location probably accounts for the very short handset range, which is pretty much limited to the confines of the house. The manual says to put the base unit "high"; e.g., on the 2nd floor of a 2-story, but I have to have it in the office because I have an intelligent fax connected to it that automatically picks up when it "hears" the fax signal. I did an experiment where I put the unit on the 2nd floor, and the range increased dramatically (~200%). However, I also compared it's range to a 20-year-old Panasonic 900MHz cordless, and the new phone's range is only about 30' more than the old phone. So if you need a LOT of range on the handsets, determine whether it will be convenient or even possible to put the base in a high position.
(d)The handsets are small (1 7/8" wide by 1 1/8" thick); my hand is big (palm alone is 4" wide x 4 1/4" long), so the handsets are not particularly comfortable. Panasonic could improve the comfort by putting soft rubber along the edge and around part of the back.

If you go shopping for a 2-line phone, you will discover that there's not much out there and few choices in the brick-and-mortar stores (Best Buys, Staples, Office Depot). Reviews of other 2-line phones show that they all have their quirks, some pretty serious. The KX-TG6702B is a well short of perfect, but probably better than most.

Digital camera Review: Good product but missing features
Summary: 4 Stars

This phone is fine. But we do not use the answering machine feature, rather use voicemail through vonage. The phone does not display any indication that external email is available. It also does not display any indication that a line is in use by a non-panisonic phone. Also it is not possible to turn up the volume on a call to a level that satisfies me. The Vtech phone I had previously did have all these features, but your reviews discouraged me from getting this again.

And why doesn't someone offer a handset for a portable land line phone that is smaller than an elephant (ie is the size of a cell phone). This seems not to be available at any price. Iam getting closer to giving up landline phones for my iPhone, which is sensational on all counts, including the above, and so many others!

Digital camera Review: Good wireless phone
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good phone - not great , but good. The handset volume is a little low and depressing the phone line buttons is also a little difficult to switch from one line to the other. The portable design is good and it has all of the good features you'd expect. Other revewers gave great information and I'd recommend this phone if this is what you are looking for.
