The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8K is absolutely the best camera I have owned. I spent three days and nights on the internet before going on a vacation determined to find a camera to take with me - not exactly a brainy idea. I took it on the airplane, learned to use it while getting to Tampa, and it was truly the best I could have chosen. With its Leica lens, 12 optical zoom, and ease of handling (yes, it is also lightweight), the pictures are exceptional. Plus the price was under $300. so I could not lose. I got great shots through the glass at the Florida aquarium, and instant shots of my husband throwing bread up in the air for seagulls to catch - something one might not see, but they showed up great. I cannot recommend it highly enough for someone who wants to have fun, is not yet into bracketing, and is willing to experiment with all the many features!Digital camera Review: Best for the Money

Simply put, this camera takes awesome pictures! I bought it because of the Leica lens. My first camera was a Leica so I expected quality. I wasn't disappointed! The body style makes the camera easy to handle and it's actually pretty impressive looking, especially compared to the simple point-and-shoot models. This is a great camera!! Easy to use, complete in functionality, great performance, very good results. Nearly unbelievable low light performance even completely zoomed in and crazy-slow shutter speeds. Good manual control. Fast shutter response and repeat picture. Video feature allows one to create a "Harry Potter" photo album - the photos of your friends waving at you. Has RAW format function. The only thing that would improve this camera would be if it had a flip-out and rotate screen for shooting over one's head in a crowd or down in the dirt for those low-angle shots.
