Digital camera Review: Excellent pictures for a very low price.

Hi, I just bought this Panasonic Lumix camera, its excellent, perfect picture cuality for a low price, I used to have a Kodak with a 10X zoom lens, which I bought about three years ago and paid twice as much as I did for this camera and the Lumix just out perfoms that camera in every shot and out performs it in funcionality, I use it everyday because I work as a realtor in the Dominican Republic, having to take pictures in very bright days or very cloudy days, and still picture cuality is always excellent and very detailled.
I only have one regret and that is the cuality of the materials on this camera, the plastic is noy very resistent and I have to keep it stored because it gets scratched very easily. Althought for the price I think that I should have known that everything was not going to be better than my old camera.

I had a reflex unit and I am not an expert on photography. Anyway, this machine is really impressive.
In my opinion, the most bad part of the unit are:
- does not have a base for external flash; and
- does not have a good case to protect the lens and the big LCD screen (I am thinking in the leather ones that reflex machines used to have).
I honestly consider it as an excellent purchase for non-expert (at least). Cheap, easy to use, many features, bla, bla, bla.... I recommend it for people like me:
- non-professional, but with medium level knowledge in photography or newbies;
- people looking for good quality pictures for special situations (parties, concerts, travel, etc)
- people who like to print big size pictures, from time to time.

I think FZ8 has best value for money at this rank of super-zoom camera.
Pros:
Leica 12x lens (F2.8-F3.1) is excellent
superb optic stabilization system (it is necessary to super-zoom unless you take with tripod)
fast focus
RAW support (I think it is biggest improvement over FZ7)
full manual operation
EVF and LCD are very sharp and bright
joystick is easy to use
Cons:
It is a pity it does not have 28mm wide lens, but you can add wide angle lens.
Noise is a problem at high ISO. It is not only for Peny but for all 1/2.5 CCD super-zoom. Keep ISO at 100, set Noise Reduction to low, shot in RAW can save you.

I bought this camera mainly to use to take pictures of my daughter's high school graduation. I needed a camera that would be able to zoom in a substantial amount of distance because they were graduating on their high school football field and we were in the stadium bleachers. The camera performed better than I expected, and over the last two years since I bought it, I've been quite happy with the pictures I've gotten. Many friends and family have commented that the pictures look professional. Panasonic does not get the hoopla like Canon and some other big name brands,
but it is simply a beautiful camera!
I can't say enough good things about it.
I had a 3mp Panasonic for a few years until I got this one a year ago.
I have taken thousands of photos, it is simply a class act camera.
I recommend Panasonic to all of my friends who are thinking of
buying a new digital camera. Obviously is it not an SLR camera
but it might as well be one! The 12x optical is great! The image
stabilizer is super.
