Digital camera reviews of Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7K 7.2MP Digital Camera with 6x Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

Digital camera Review: Good Pictures and easy to use
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had my Panasonic LZ7 for about 2 weeks now I am quite happy with it. The low(7.2) mega pixels does not really bother me too much as I will not be printing extra large pictures. The quality of the photos are really good. What im really impressed with is the 6X optical zoom, (most small cameras average around 3X-5X zoom) you can really get nice close ups of animals and other things that you can't normally get close to, and there is no picture noise even with full zoom at 6X. The camera is bigger than the average point and shoots, but with the large lens and the 2AA batteries it takes, this is to be expected. Battery life is decent, I use re-chargeables though. All in all, good value, for the money..

Digital camera Review: Good Zoom, but too much noise
Summary: 3 Stars

The camera is good, lens is strong and nice, but even at low ISO there is a lot of noise in the photograph. Video recording is also a bit flaky.

Digital camera Review: Good camera
Summary: 4 Stars

I did a lot of research before buying this camera.

It works fine, pictures are good. Nice screen. No case included. Battery life is adequate IF you use rechargeable batteries. These are a must. Regular Alkalines don't work, not enough power. Pretty simple operation. You'll want to buy a memory card which are about $20-$25. Good camera for the money. Buy it.

Digital camera Review: Good camera for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

People often seem to buy things that have obvious characteristics they don't like, and then complain when they get exactly what they bought. For example, if you want a super-slim camera, it makes no sense to complain that the Lumix is bulky because it is clearly not a super-slim camera. It is, rather, a camera on the small end of the popular Canon A series. That said, here are what I found to be the camera's good and bad points. First, the good:

GOOD:

1) It takes AA batteries. True, these don't have the same oomph as proprietary Li-Ion batteries, but they're cheap -- even rechargeable NiMH AA -- and available everywhere. Personally, I think this flexibility is more than worth the size trade-off and was one of the reasons I looked for a camera in this range.

2) Shutter lag is minimal. Again, this is relative. Is the Lumix as quick as a decent DSLR? Of course not. But is it quicker than most comparable point-and-shoots? Yes. And for a point-and-shoot, this is a significant plus.

3) The 6x optical zoom works well and is on the high end for a camera in this price bracket.

4) The anti-shake works reasonably well...and is particularly useful when combined with the upper end of the 6x optical zoom.

5) Picture quality...particularly of outdoor shots....is good and relatively noise free.

6) Overall ergonomics are good.

Now, the BAD:

1) There is an annoying lag between what the camera is pointed at and what appears on the LCD viewer. I also have a Canon A630, for example, and it tracks MUCH quicker. This lag exists whether the anti-shake is activated or not, and is my biggest complaint with this camera.

2) Like many point-and-shoots, the Lumix takes much better shots outdoors than inside, even though inside shots are where it is best suited (family pics, things like that). Again, compared to my Canon A630 (admittedly, a more expensive camera), the Lumix sharpness and color balance is inferior.

3) As much as I like the 6x optical zoom, for a point-and-shoot I'd much rather have a better wide angle. I'm simply more often going to use the camera to take group people shots than ones of birds a mile away.

4) A minor complaint is that this camera lacks manual aperture and shutter control. I've found that when you really use these features, they're quite valuable. But, again, this is a minor complaint because most cameras at this price point don't have this feature, either.

RECOMMENDATION: Overall, this is a great camera for what it is. However, I'd steer you to the Canon PowerShot A570IS 7.1MP, which I think overall is a better and more versatile camera...and slightly cheaper. The Canon has only a 4x zoom, but offers more manual controls and gives better overall performance.

Digital camera Review: Good camera for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera after seeing the photos of a friend who has this camera.. so, I was pretty confident of what I am buying. Have been using the camera for a few months now and am still impressed by the clarity of the image and the quality.. It beats any other camera of the same price range.

Video quality is also good and the microphone is quite sensitive. Only I am not too impressed by the nightmode.. which is the case with most auto cameras..Worth the buy. you wont be disappointed.
