Digital camera reviews of Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7K 7.2MP Digital Camera with 6x Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

Digital camera Review: Good camera for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good camera for the price. Of course, I had to buy mine about a year ago when the price was $200, now that its down to $100 its even better for the price.
Pros: great zoom, large screen, easy to navigate menu (you just have to read the manual when you first get it), decent megapixels, durable (I've dropped it several times with only a couple scratches on the top of the camera).
Cons: No sound playback. It records sound, but has no built-in speaker to replay it on your camera. No built-in rechargeable battery. You must buy AA's for the camera, and even then the video recording drains the life so quickly. I'd advise you to buy rechargeable AA batteries (around $20). Camera is a little bulky. It's more expensive brother is 10x zoom, and is thinner!
I'm 14, was 13 when I got it for my birthday. I'm entering a photography contest with a photo taken with this camera, although I'm looking to sell it and buy a better one. I'm really disappointed to see it only sells for $85, when I paid $200!

Digital camera Review: Good deal
Summary: 4 Stars

I like the camera - small enough but with big zoom, autofocus very responsive and fast, image stabilization works well, AA batteries and long battery life, easy user interface.

cons:
The pictures are a little bit noisy even at lowest ASA;
No optical viewfinder - some time hard to frame with LCD on the direct Sun light;
no manual focus, but autofocus works well in most conditions: with canon cameras could not achieve focus on red objects (like roses), but could with this camera ..

Bottom line - good buy.

Alex.

Digital camera Review: Good overall value
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a very good quality camera for the price. I've found that it works best in light situations that are bright (but not too bright) to medium. The image quality is excellent at ISOs 200 or below, and I really love the custom white balance feature and the 6x zoom.

In bright sunshine (I took this camera to Las Vegas) the colors look slightly dull, and highlights tend to get washed out if you are photographing highly contrasting objects. However, that can be (somewhat) fixed through Photoshop.

In low light settings, or using ISO 400 and above, the images start to show a lot of noise, and pictures above ISO 800 are pretty much unusable. This is a source of frustration to me as I often photograph live bands in dark clubs (where flash is discouraged). However, I must mention that I'm nitpicking here and most compact cameras in this price range perform at the same disgusting noise level, except for the discontinued Fuji Finepix F10, F20, F30s.

There is a significant lag between shots, and it usually takes 3 seconds before the next shot is possible when using flash. Not a big problem for me, as I prefer to avoid flash.

I like the fact that this camera takes standard AA size batteries, so I don't have to wait for a recharge when batteries are dead. I highly recommend using NiMH batteries; they last for a long, long time on one charge, around 450-500 shots I think. In comparison, Alkaline batteries are eaten alive after 150 pictures, if that.

I've had the camera for 9 months, and so far no problems whatsoever. I even dropped it 3 ft onto a rock, after which it slipped underneath into wet mud, and it came out alive with two scratch wounds.

Overall, I'm happy with the camera. It's hard to beat at this price. Finally, check out the customer images I uploaded. They show what this camera can do!

Digital camera Review: Good price but not an impressive performance
Summary: 3 Stars

I thought it was a great deal, and in fact, it is. It offers a decent quality and good zoom for the cost. However, I am not impressed with the images. When you take pictures at night with the flash, everything is super bright. And the same happens with daylight. You can control the set up and kind of fix this, but this is a simple to use point and shoot camera and should not require users to do this. The Auto mode sucks and I'm not happy with the colors either. Also, I was very surprised with the size... it is huge and heavy.

Digital camera Review: Good quality camera
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price and the options available is the camera to buy, with 6X optical zoom you can get sharp pictures. The video quality is excelent but it takes a lot of memory of your memory card.
