Okay, here's the deal:
I have seen good to great comments and bad to horrible comments about this camera and for what I have seen personally, the good outweighs the bad.
I have had mine for a week and I got it based on the advice from a family member that had his for over a year. So far no problems for either of us.
It appears as if the negative comments stem from how bad the pictures turn out.
This is a compact camera for family home and vacation use. If you expect picture quality that will get you a Pulitzer Prize for Time Magazine, you will be let down.
Yes, this is a great camera for its price and it's great at what it does but don't expect those professional photos. That's not what this is used for.
You can't get a better camera at this price in any store. The features are beyond acceptable from the zoom function to the video function.
However, it isn't all good!
The audio is very poor. The microphone and the speaker are not at the level the rest of the camera is at. Also, the battery dies very quickly
Hey, my camera may bite the dust in an hour (that's life) but if you can get one of these and it stays workable (and there's no reason why it wouldn't) you got yourself a winner!

I was so happy with my camera that I bought one for each of our adult children for Christmas. I love everything about it, especially the zoom. I wouldn't change anything, except I still haven't discovered how to get a perfect shot of a fast-moving toddler indoors with a flash. I spent about 3 hours researching point n shoot cameras online before deciding on this one. It had good reviews and the wide angle availability was important to me. Well, I got it and couldn't be happier. Takes great pictures, easy to use, and good battery life. Since I'm a scuba diver I wanted a simple camera to use underwater. I researched online actual photos taken with the camera and they were great. It has an underwater setting and white balance adjust to fine tune the colors for diving. I also just purchased the marine housing so can't wait to take my first underwater pics. I really like this camera. Great camera that is easy to use. The menus are simple and the image quality is great. The LCD Screen size is fantastic and looks sharp. The 10x optical zoom alows me to get great pictures with depth of field.
My only grip is that the audio quality for the video is not so great and the mic is located on the top where I usually put my finger. But the audio of most other cameras that my friends have are about the same. It's just a shame because the 720p video looks fantastic.
One option that I would have liked included would have been a longer exposure. The most this camera does is 2 seconds and I would have liked it to go up to 15, but that's not so important.
A second option would be to have camera control when connected to a computer, but obviously that really isn't important for most users.
