Digital camera reviews of Panasonic RF-P50 Pocket AM/FM Radio, Silver

Digital camera Review: Exceptional value in quality and battery life!
Summary: 5 Stars

I listen to this radio every night all night. I can get a month of use befor I replace the batteries! UNBELIEVABLE! Forget the hand cranks. Forget the rechargeable batteries. Buy one of these and some akalai batteries and you will never purchase another radio.

Digital camera Review: Extremely good radio - but discontinued
Summary: 5 Stars

I like the sound quality of this radio. The only problem is, that after a while, it has a tendency to break, especially the antenna. It has been discontinued, so you should get as many as you can. This quality of sound in a small radio is rare.

I first bought this radio in February 2000. When I lost it (although it was eventually found - it mysteriously disappeared overnight in a house and was found during spring cleaning in 2002) I bought another in June 2001. When I lost that one (for real - it evidentally fell out of my pocket in the street) I discovered that it was no available longer in the store where I bought it (Klearvuiew Appliances) from but Internet research turned up other places. I bought a few over time from PC Richards.

One radio - the first - had the antenna broken and it eventually came off. Another, used by someone in a car with a nonfunctioning car radio, wound up with the antenna stuck in a slightly open position (no real problem - it can still even fit in a sweater pocket)

A third radio seems to now have bad reception, especially for WABC. Something went wrong with the tuning connection. This is the sortt of thing thatbsometimes happens to table radios if they suffer knocks - some wire is not perfectly connected

When it works, it is extremely good. The biggest problem is simply that, like virtually all radio models, good or bad, the manufacturer discontinues them aftter a relatively short period of time. I think that is some kind of strategy. Most models do not produce good clear sound at low volumes. This one does.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 90-year-old mom lives with me in my condo; our ground floor location makes radio reception nearly impossible. She only likes to listen to talk radio, baseball games, sports call-in shows, etc. We have tried every possible Walkman or other transistor radio. Mom has mild dementia and is physically restricted from a lot of activities, so it was important to me to try to find her a radio - short of selling my condo and moving to a location with better reception!

Based on a reviewer who stated that they got great reception in their basement apartment, I decided that to give it a try for only $9.99.

What a great product! The reception is loud and clear even without the antenna!

Thank you Panasonic for a truly great little radio! I am purchasing a second and third one to keep in my office in NYC (in case of another 9/11 or a blackout!) and as a backup for my mom.

Digital camera Review: GREAT LITTLE RADIO
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great radio with excellent sound. Not an easy find!

Digital camera Review: GREAT little pocket radio
Summary: 5 Stars

PLUS
Much like the very first radio I had as a kid - also a Panasonic. Good battery life, excellent sound quality, and if it looks like an old fashioned transistor radio - take off the cover and you'll see why. It IS an old fashioned transistor radio.

MINUS
The antennae is a fragile design. Most traditional radios have the antennae collapse into the body of the radio. Not this one. You have to very gently unfold it from face down to face up on a small hinge. On my first attempt, it snapped in half. So I immediately bought another radio, and am being more careful with it.
