Digital camera reviews of Passport Essential 2.5" 320GB USB Hard Drive

Digital camera Review: A Fantastic Little Hard Drive with Lots of Space!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this 320GB hard drive specifically to swap out the drive with the one in my HP laptop (dv6000)(200GB). After watching a few YouTube videos and fiddling with the darn difficult-to-open case on the Passport, I was happily chugging along with way more space on my laptop! The new drive is much quieter, faster, and bigger than the stock HP Drive. I can definitely say I'm a happy camper!

I've now put my HP Drive into the Passport enclosure to have a nice and sleek little 200GB portable bus-powered drive! Find the best price and get one today, you won't regret it. =)

Now if they'd only start pumping out 1TB 2.5" drives then I'd be REALLY excited. (Of course that'll probably happen by the time some of you are reading this, so fingers-crossed!)

Digital camera Review: A complete Dud inside the shiny exterior
Summary: 1 Stars

Do not buy this product! At first I was pleased with this product and had no problems. I loved it. But only after a few months, it crashed and will not run! I called into support, and they told me (indirectly) that I had to use one of their data recovery vendors (pay out of pocket) to get my data back. Once I get it back, than I can return my product and they will send me a new one. I'm sorry, but I do NOT find comfort in getting a replacement dud, only to potentially lose my data again in a few months and have to pay several hundred to get it back!

AKA - if you google around, you will easily find other reviews saying similiar things.

Digital camera Review: A good looking, slow transferring, extremelly portable hard drive
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my third external portable hard drive. This is a very light and good looking drive. I really love its look. Once it was plugged in my laptop pc, it was recognized right away. It works constantly well with one of my three usb ports of my T60 laptop. But for the other two ports, it lost the connection very frequently. I guess this is a power issue. I bet this drive will be super fast if it uses a line using two usb ports as my the other one. This is why I rate it as 4 instead of 5 stars. The transferring speed of this drive is way slower than my Seagate free agent desk external hard drive, as well as my old hard drive with Macally PHR-250CC FireWire enclosure (it requires two usb ports or one 6pin firewire port). It took more than half hours to move 30G media file from Seagate external drive to this one while it took less than 10 minutes easily for my other two drives to move these big files. But it is acceptable as long as you don't want to copy big files from one to this one urgently. I also run a Warcraft computer game from this drive. It works smoothly.

It should be noted that the blue light indicator on the back of the old version passort disappears on this new version. Instead, A usb white light indicator is placed right besides the usb connection port.

Overall, I think this is good drive with large enough capacity. I wish some day usb port can provide more power though.

Digital camera Review: A huge about of data storage in a small box
Summary: 5 Stars

This hard drive is a good choice for you if need loads of portable storage space and perfect for putting it in a backpack for travel. It comes preloaded with WDSync/Encryption tools that you don't have to install to use the drive. Works well as a backup repository for your CD/DVD and Acronis partition .iso images. The access times are acceptable for a USB device, and I would definitely buy this product again.

Digital camera Review: A must buy if you have a company laptop.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a company laptop with a 80GB hard drive. There are security measures in place that restrict one from haven non company business on the laptop such as music, pictures, games,.....etc. The Western Digital My Passport 320GB not only give you that extra memory, but its size and weight make it easy to carry around in my laptop case. I love it.
