Digital camera reviews of Passport Essential 2.5" 320GB USB Hard DriveDigital camera Review: Convenient and Powerful Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the WD Passport because I have had great experiences with WD internal drives and was proved correct in assuming that this quality carries over into their external portable drives as well. The Passport connects quickly, has a really powerful synchronization function built in that essentially allows a person who travels often to turn any computer into his or her computer while on the road, and then synchronize their personal PC or notebook at a later date using the Passport to update the changes that where made while away. The price is great for the storage capacity, and the design is obviously pretty sleek too.
Digital camera Review: Convenient external drive Summary: 4 Stars
I have used this drive to transport large files back and forth from several location including work, home, and friends' homes. While the drive won't win any speed records, the convenience, size, capacity, and solid feel make it well worth the price of admission.
This drive has been in operation for me for six months or so, has survived many trips in the car on rough roads, and even the occasional rough handling at home. There have been no signs of wear, and I would be quite comfortable purchasing a few of these to keep backups of critical data.
I rate things as follows:
1 star - Far below expectations / Completely unsatisfactory
2 star - Below expectations / Unsatisfactory
3 star - Met expectations / Satisfactory
4 star - Exceeded expectations / Very satisfactory
5 star - Far exceeded expectations / Beyond satisfactory
Digital camera Review: Convinient but VERY DANGEROUS Summary: 2 Stars
I will be brief.
The good part - compact, sleek, very portable and quite easy to work with.
The bad part - VERY VERY VERY primitive software that overwrites your sensitive data without warning leading to loss of important files in a way that they can't be recovered!!
If you are trying to synchronize your computer and the drive, and if you have created new files on computer that now should be copied over to the drive, Passport software starts overwriting files on your computer!!! I lost several GBs of sensitive emails, almost an years worth of communication that was extremely important. My coworkers started reporting similar experience and collectively we decided our corporate cannot afford the sloppy Passport software.
Final Take: Buy at your own risk
Digital camera Review: Crashed after a year of light use Summary: 1 Stars
Really annoying. Used lightly; sat on a shelf for 6 months. Hooked it up again; clicking sound. Crashed.
Digital camera Review: D.O.A. Summary: 1 Stars
This drive was DOA. I tried using on Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Home Premium systems and it didn't work on either. I must have got the dud drive and I returned it.
