Digital camera Review: This is the one lens you need for your Pentax K10D or Samsung GX10

This is the one lens you need. It is a good enough lens with an amazing 14 to 1 range. It is in practice a real one lens for everything solution for your Pentax or Samsung DSLR. It is both wide enough and long enough when zoomed for way over 95% of what most people will ever shoot. I think it is optically better than the Pentax 18-55 I got with my camera.
I print mainly medium sized 8X10 or 11X14 prints and they look consistently good if I'm careful to attend to camera settings. If I just depend on Auto, point and shoot, it is possible that I will get more than a few shots that just aren't sharp.
It has an annoying habit of extending full length when pointed down due to the low resistance to turning the zoom ring and the relentless effects of gravity. I find myself walking around with on finger pressed on the zoom ring to keep it from getting an erection.
I'd buy this again. I might wish I could have found an even better K mount zoom with this same zoom range, but I could not.

This lens covers a lot of territory (focal length) and after getting used to it could very easily become the main "walking around" lens to keep on your DSLR. I love the 14x optical zoom and it brings in things very close; the downside at full zoom is even with shake reduction on, you have to be rock steady holding the camera to get a blur free picture.
The only slight negative in my mind is that the zoom feature on this lens seems to be a tad loose and once you set it, if the lens is not horizontal, you may experience "zoom creep". There is a lock for the lens, but it is only engageable at 18mm; so I use the lock when the lens is on my camera and stowed in the bag.
Overall another winner for Pentax.

I added this lens to my Pentax K200D after just a few days with the camera. The camera came with the 18-55 lens, but that didn't provide any capability to reach any distances to get that close-up shot. The range on this lens allows for some very impressive wide-angle shooting, and then can quickly zoom great distances for an entirely different kind of photography. I am very satisfied with this lens and would recommend it to anyone trying to improve their photography capability. The time when long zooms were associated with sloppy performance is over. Many companies have very high quality long range zooms with very fine optical qualities and this Pentax baby is not an exception. This is very nice, sharp and ease to handle lens. I must say the general design of all DA lens is very successful.
The lens is slow on its long side but having this amazing anti shake in a camera body makes it as good as some expensive glass years ago. All things considered it is one amazing travel lens. If you are a dedicated wildlife shooter you probably will buy a different lens, but for verstility and overall image quality this lens can not be beaten.
I have one complain though and it is the price! I guess the price for such popular lens is way too high. It should be in some high 2xx or low 3xx.
