Digital camera Review: A bit of work to get it going with my MAC but the scans are great.

With all of the negative reviews about this product and MAC OSX, I was a little concerned. Indeed when I downloaded the drivers, from Pentax -- they didn't come with the scanner, I had a bit of trouble. I planned to use preview to do scans of my bills and other assorted household paperwork. The first scans were unreadable, almost blank. It turns out preview doesn't use the standard twain scan utility -- from the driver I downloaded. There was no calibration utility built into the dialog box preview uses to do scans. I was concerned it just wasn't going to work with my Mac. Then, just to see if it was preview, I decided to scan the document using photoshop. In this case I got a different scan dialog box -- which had the scanner name in the title. The first time it tried to scan it asked me to calibrate the scanner -- this was progress. Once I did the calibration the scan turned out perfect. I then went back to preview and the scans there were good too. So if you intend to use preview to do your scans, be sure to calibrate it using some other software that uses the twain scanning utility before you use preview. The scanner is absolutely useless before it is calibrated.
Clearly a bit better Mac support and drivers shipped with the device would be nice but other than that it is a great scanner.

This was a great buy for me. I work for the county of El Paso and every device has access codes. It is very inconvient for a contractor like myself to use office equipment. This is why I purchased a portable scanner. This scanner is light, compact, fast, and super ease to use. The software is clear and to the point. You can preview the scan as it is happening and gives you the option to rescan that particular page without altering the whole document. I can scan pictures but I haven't tried it. The only reason I did not give it 5 rating was when you feed the document sometimes it pulls the paper in a weird way and makes the scan look awkward, I gues this is why it has a rescan document feature. Another big thing was that it used the power from the laptop not a dedicated power supply. Overall I recommend it and rate it 4.75 stars. Make sure you shop around for the best price. I have only used the scanner a few times but it works well. Set up was quick and easy (which I like). I like the small size. It takes up no space on my cluttered desk. As with most products, you have to fool around with the settings until you get the image to look like you want it to but this was not a big problem.Digital camera Review: Almost perfect mobile scanner

I drive around 3000 miles per month as an account manager. My office is my vehicle. The ability to scan documents immediately, rather until I get to a Staples or home is invaluable to me. The install of the scanner was acceptable - especially since they don't officially support Win 7. I think the issue was the drivers that shipped on the CD were V 1.2 versus 2.2 on the net. Scanning software is very basic but does scan to .pdf - one huge advantage over standard Win Fax & Scan. For a documents scanner it is great - don't think this would be ideal for photos (why anyone would even consider this scanner for that I have no idea). Speed wise it is acceptable. For a scanner this small it is fantastic. No complaints whatsoever. Drivers and utilities are also tiny which I appreciate - ever install HP those massive products?

This is an amazing product. I was looking for a small scanner to carry on the road to scan invoices and bills and this just does it! It is so easy to use, so easy to install and the results are more than good.
I was so impresed by the design of this little piece that if I had to give a price for design, this item will win it!
I highly recommend it, it is small (like the size of a recorder) and very efficient.
