Digital camera reviews of Pentax DSmobile 600 ScannerDigital camera Review: Computer Brain sells this item and you would be a fool to buy from them Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this scanner through Amazon because it was highly rated. I waited nearly four weeks for delivery and then my order was cancelled with no explanation after I inquired about the delay. Amazon claims it has no control over third party sales, yet I ordered this item through AMAZON. The point is, you would be foolish to order this scanner through Amazon since the order goes to Computer Brain and they simply don't care that they are out of stock when they accept your order. No communication, no warning, merely accept the order, then cancel it. Who cares. And Amazon apparently does not care either.
Digital camera Review: Convenience Summary: 5 Stars
It's tiny, it works, the pageManager software wasn't working very well with Vista, but the whole the TWAIN interface still worked, so other software still works, with the scanner including the upgrade CD for vista I ordered for free for DSmobileScan
Digital camera Review: Convenience at your fingertips Summary: 5 Stars
Due to the small size of my desk (and my need for minimal clutter) -- that served as my basis for looking for a scanner with a small footprint. My needs other than that were minimal; I wasn't planning to scan photos or negatives, so actual pixel-by-pixel color accuracy wasn't a big concern. So having size as my primary restriction, I was left with only a few choices. Among them, it was primarily between Fujitsu and Neat Receipts. The form was considerably more expensive, and the latter, although in the same price range, seemed to lack in the usability department (from others' reviews).
As for the actual real-world usage of the Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner, I must say it's been a great addition to my gadget collection. My documents generally scan pretty fast, get directly saved into a PDF, and I'm done. I've had no need to use the OCR functions yet so I can't comment on those. But as for the size (small), and the lack of clutter (only 1 USB cable going to my computer) -- the product just fits the bill.
One thing that I have noticed is that since the paper is fed through by rollers, there have been instances where one size of the paper is fed into the scanner first, causing a mis-aligned output image. That's not much of a problem since it can be remedied by scanning it again, but it is sometimes frustrating when you are in a hurry to get something scanned and are naturally getting lazy about feeding the paper into the scanner optimally.
Digital camera Review: Could not install the scanner Summary: 1 Stars
The scanner may have been defective because I could not install it on the computer. I tried three different desktop/laptops with windows xp and 7. None of them worked. All computers detected a USB scanner but none were able to install the driver for it. I even downloaded the most updated software from Brother's website, still did not work. I sent the scanner back to Amazon which did not have an exchange option.
Digital camera Review: Couldn't have asked for more Summary: 5 Stars
I researched scanners for awhile; I even have a similar scanner at work. I wanted one that was easier and smoother than the one at work. The Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner was easy to install, easy to use and a lot better than the popular model at work.
