Digital camera Review: Didn't work well for me...
Summary: 2 Stars

I had read several of the reviews of this device, and noted some that commented on the users' difficulties in trying to get the pages to run through the scanner straight. I decided to take a chance and purchase this through gizmosforlife.

I found that scanning straight was a near impossibility. It appears that there is only one roller running in the unit, so very few of my scans were completely straight. After about 30 attempts with different types of paper, and even placing the old newsletters I was scanning into a plastic sleeve, I eventually gave up and returned the unit.

If the manufacturer added a second roller, I'd probably go right out and purchase the new version right away.

It had a very small footprint, which I loved. My computer recognized the unit right away, and the software installed relatively quickly and with no problems.

Saw it at the Dr's office and told myself I need to get that. It works wonders with scanning directly into a file. I really like it.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

After reading all the reviews on this product, I decided to order one. It was delivered today. Setup worked fine, but the scanner would not work. It would not even feed the calibration sheet. I called Pentax customer support, and he could hear the noise the scanner was making. He immediately said the feed rollers are hung up. I asked him if this was a common problem, and he said it does happen. I thought it was odd that they were hung up before I even used it. However, he said they would ship out a replacement right away. I'm not sure I even want it now, but decided to give it a try. Hopefully, this is an unusual case.

Digital camera Review: Does What It Claims
Summary: 4 Stars

I need a portable scanner primarily to scan documents to pdf while on the road. This scanner does that task well. It scans a page reasonably quickly, and the scanned image appears on the screen quickly. The quality of the scanned images is very good, meaning that text in the pdf file appears fairly sharp, like a good copy. You have to feed each sheet carefully so that it feeds straight, but this is not too difficult, and the sheets generally went through straight. I have yet to find a portable scanner that is as fast as, or produces as good image quality as, a nonportable desktop sheet fed scanner like the Xerox Documate scanners.

I previously bought the NeatReceipts 3.0 scanner, but the quality of the scans was poor and it took a LONG time for the software to process each scan and have the pdf file appear on the screen. This Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner produces better quality scans, and the pdf file appears on the screen MUCH faster than with the NeatReceipts.

The Pentax scanner is slightly taller and rounder than the NeatReceipts, but it's still pretty small and light.
