Digital camera Review: Phillips 19" LCD HDTV Summary: 5 StarsAfter 1 1/2 months, I can say the picture is very clear, high quality. The audio is clear. Like the nice glass base. Very slim, trim and good looking. I believe this is a great tv purchase and a good size for my kitchen. I would recommend this.

Digital camera Review: Not Impressed. Summary: 3 Stars Bought this Philips 19pfl5422D/27 at Wally World last night. In the store it seemed to have the best overall picture clarity of any tv in this size I have seen. The price was slightly more than I wanted to spend for a tv this size but decided to give in, based on the most positive reviews for this size. It is also in my opinion the best looking design I have seen in a small tv. It really has the look of a quality product. My main complaint is regarding the 1440 x 900 native pixel resolution, which after some research I find is the most common among smaller sized tv's. It sounds like you're getting a better tv than say 1366 x 768 when in fact you're really getting a distorted picture no matter what format your watching. (4:3 or 16:9 widescreen) In high def. the 16:9 is actually 16:10 on this tv which stretches the vertical dimension of the screen.(people are visibly skinnier) There is no way to adjust this. My research online revealed that many manufacturers of smaller lcd tv's actually use panels that are also used in computer monitors. This 1440x900 is an example. I guess in some way this keeps cost down? I guess they figure most people won't notice the distortion in this size screen. Another negative of this tv is that the color in general seems to be skewed towards reddish brown. I can't seem to get realistic looking skin tones after spending much time adjusting color, tint, contrast, etc. No matter what, the skin tones seem over saturated and dark. Also, my set does have the backlight bleedthrough around all edges of screen, esp. noticeable in dark scenes. For the most part I could live with that. I bought this tv for use in the bedroom next to my computer. While its use is only secondary and I'm not quite as picky as I would be for my main tv, I would like to see better quality picture for $400(w/ tax). It's really a shame that a feature packed tv like this falls so short in the most critical areas. I will continue to shop and if I find better, this tv is going back to Wackymart. I guess I may have to go to a 23" or 26" which will raise cost by $200-$300 and not be comfortable viewing from 3 to 4 feet. The distortion problem seems to be largely unnoticed by most reviewers and you can't find any professional critic reviews in this size market. I had to learn the hard way. I gave it one extra star just for it's quality look and decent sound from such small speakers. It even has a graphic eq in the menu. Actually when I edited this review a day later I wanted to remove 1 star from my rating but it wouldn't let me. Shopping for a new tv these days is way more frustrating than say 15 yrs. ago when I bought my last one. One has to be very up on current technology if you want to make a confident decision. Side by side comparisons in retail stores seem almost pointless since factory settings are way out of wack, over saturated, bright, etc. I get the impression that certain retailers try to push one brand over another just because they can make a larger profit. (CC, BB) I for one refuse to buy something just because it outsells the other brand. Samsung seems to have a nice picture though hard to tell with color all the way up to 100, but I just can't get past the shiny, CHEAP LOOKING, SCRATCH PRONE plastic! I'd rather pay a little more for a Sony just because they don't look so cheap. I'll be buying a 46" for my living room as soon as the next generation comes out. And why is it the one tv I want to compare in the store is either not on the same feed or not even hooked up! I guess I'll just roll the dice again. I'll shut up now!
