Digital camera reviews of Philips DCP951/37 9-Inch Portable DVD Player with iPod DockingDigital camera Review: Great idea, mediocre execution Summary: 3 Stars
The picture is good. It's easy to use, my 3yr old knew his way around it in minutes. Works with all ipods. Interface is mediocre, unattractive and slow. Heaven forbid you need to find a song that's not on a playlist...it takes forever. Don't get me wrong, I do recommend this product if you are pretty computer saavy. I filled a 5g ipod with something like 50 movies and tv shows...battery ran out long before kid's patience did. BIGGEST COMPLAINT - ON/OFF BUTTON IS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE. HAD THE PLAYER IN MY CARRY ON BAG, TOOK IT OUT HALFWAY THROUGH A FLIGHT AND THE BATTERY WAS ALMOST DEAD BECAUSE IT HAD TURNED ON INSIDE MY BAG. It's easy to hook up to a tv so that's great but I haven't figured out a way to have the picture come only through the tv so the picture is going on two screens. Somewhere between funky and annoying. Latch on ipod door broke after about 5 uses.
PROS - Great price, easy to use, works with almost all ipods. Good picture. Two headphone jacks.
CONS - Clunky interface, mediocre battery life, SUPER-SENSITIVE ON/OFF SWITCH, no way to shut off monitor when running through an external tv, low build quality.
My overall experience with Philips products has been like this - Great design/Mediocre execution
Digital camera Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
Great images, great sound! we placed it in our kitchen and we spend a lot of time trying music with CD and pictures (Dora - the favorite for my girl), and also we connected to the TV antena, so we have a complete TV there.
Digital camera Review: I am not convinced this article Summary: 1 Stars
The product I was very impressed at first, but the battery lasts very little, it's a bit slow to switch modes to connect the ipod touch is to restart the computer or turn it off sometimes several times so that you can detect not can increase or decrease the volume by remote cotrol ...
Digital camera Review: I like Philips......BUT Summary: 2 Stars
I picked one of these up. I was psyched about the iPod dock. A great idea and from what I can currently find, also a unique feature. No one else has a portable DVD with an iPod dock. At the time of purchase I was torn between this Philips model and the Sony FX820. I'm a big Sony fan but the iPod dock really had me.
I got it home and popped my iPhone into the slide out dock. After fidgeting with it for a couple of minutes I was watching a movie from my iPhone on the screen. Cool. But.....then I noticed. Unless you are looking at this player's screen head on, you can't see a damned thing. If you change the viewing angle just a bit, the LCD screen becomes nearly black. Unviewable. Very disappointing. To me, this one fault makes this player useless. It's a shame. The iPod dock feature is cool.
The unit does feel VERY plastic-y. Also, this is an open faced design. You can't close it up. The screen is always exposed. The DVD loads on the back of the unit too. Kind of clumsy.
On a positive note. The unit didn't seem affected by any cellphone GSM noise.
A cool idea but flawed by seriously poor image quality. I would recommend the Sony FX820. You can hook up an iPod or just about any external video source using a cable. The Sony is far superior in material, build quality and picture quality. Sorry Philips!
Digital camera Review: I'm going to miss you.....dvd player! Summary: 5 Stars
I am going to miss my DVD player so much. I've had it since it came out! My little man just broke it. Cracked the screen. I've had it for years and it was very reliable.
This DVD player does it all! It plays movies from your discs, your SD cards, your ipod, etc. Is there anything this DVD player wont do? It even plays all of your burned disc including the mp3 cds you make with 150 songs on them. It play all formats of your burned movies as well. This cant be beat!
