Digital camera Review: Decent DVD player - Can be made Region Free

This is a decent DVD player, nothing too fancy about it. It does not have HDMI connection. The great thing about this, however, it's that it can be made to play DVDs from all regions. All you need to do is to input the region code by typing it on the remote. Pros: It works, even with Netflix DVDs.
Cons: Zoom size is small. The remote control keys are multi-function; some key functions get changed depending on what you're doing.
I use zoom a lot. With other players, I'll often zoom in and then slowly advance the picture. Can't do that with the remote for this player because the keys controlling the alternate speeds (step, slow motion, fast forward or reverse) are the same keys that control where the picture is centered in zoom, so if you're using zoom you can't access those other functions anymore.
As to the zoom itself, 2X is about 15% bigger, 3X around 25%, and 4X might make it to 45% larger than the original picture size. My older unit zooms in at more than triple those values.
If you don't care about using zoom, then the player has a good clear picture and has been able to read everything that Netflix has thrown at me. If you're familiar with the typical (lack of) quality of Netflix DVDs, which usually have at least small scratches and look like they're never cleaned, you'll know this is a big plus.

After anxiously awaiting arrival of this unit, when I got it, I was highly disappointed. After going thru everything needed for the hook up, and trying to use unit to view new DVD i also bought, the door would not open to receive the dvd. i tried opening it both from the unit itself, and from the remote. I received this player today and used it for about an hour. When it was time to eject the DVD the player refused to. It would make a noise and then continue to load the DVD. I had to take apart the player to get my dvd back. I requested an exchange from Philips since Amazon would not allow me to exchange it for this particular item.
Another complaint, the box arrived in horrible condition which might have affected the player. It looked like someone was playing soccer with it before it arrived at my house. Amazon could have delivered it in a brown cardboard box. The item wasn't large at all. Shame on Amazon.
UPDATE
I just realized this item was delivered from "Amazon's Return Center" making me believe this was used.

I only write a review if a product is really good or really bad. This dvd player is really bad. Did not last at least a year.
