Digital camera Review: Good Deal - With Some Work

I bought this as a multi region unit to play UK dvd's.
The machine is locked to region 1 so and after calling Phillips I was told they this ONLY applies in the US. If you buy it in Canada it is unlocked to all regions.
2 minutes with Google and a simple code entry on the remote and it is now unlocked. NOW its a great deal. No complaints at all apart from the locking silliness.

This inexpensive unit, that can play a ton of formats had me pretty excited. Within two weeks I started having problems with the color. I've never seen this from a dvd player before. All the red was gone and everything but blues took on a yellow/green tinge.
Switching from interlaced to progressive scan fixed it - but I still need to send it back because who knows how long the color will last with this mode?
For the money - I guess it could be worth taking ones chances, but from the reviews I've read it looks like anyone who buys this needs to be prepared for a decent chance of hardware failure.

Pros:
- Great price
- Plays DVDs just fine -- gets the job done
- Easy to setup
- Very compact
Cons:
A couple of very minor things...
- Noisy when seeking new chapters on the DVD. No big deal; goes away after a couple of seconds.
- Won't turn on automatically when you press the "Eject" button to insert a DVD. (Our previous DVD player did this automatically, so we got spoiled.)

Light weight, compact, plays all forms, easy to install and use. I bought it for a friend's birthday and he seems to really enjoy it.
