Digital camera Review: *sigh*

The logistics of the available connections mean if you do not have a TV with separate HD video inputs, and you route your sound through a stereo receiver, you cannot use both the DVD and VHS without choosing to connect the video-RCA plug directly to the television set, which may make using a DTV tuner, or game or other equipment more difficult to connect to whole system. There is only one CVBS (RCA) video-out, and if you select Digital (Coaxial) sound on your stereo receiver, and your video is passed through the receiver, you won't see a picture; selecting your receiver's VCR for video from DVD or VHS forces non-digital (CVBS two-channel stereo) sound. There is not a separate video-out connection for using with DVD digital sound on this unit without a HDTV hook-up. A separate VCR & DVD player works better on my non-HD TV and Stereo Receiver system.
Furthermore, DVD tray-door seems sluggish at best. I don't think the picture quality is terrific compared with my past RCA-brand DVD player. The VHS sound quality however is very good. Less convenient than two separate units.

I bought the DVD/VCR combo to replace another DVD/VCR combo that I had for many years. It was a reasonable price, got shipped to me fast, set up easily and plays all my DVDs and tapes without any problems. With my old machine, if there was a tiny little scratch on the back, it wouldn't play. This machine plays everything, even my kids' DVDs which are more than a little scuffed up. I bought one of these & I have to say it's really bad. The set-up is complicated. The remote has every button you can imagine but you can never seem to find the one you want because the layout is complicated & not functionally organized. Bigger issues. The VCR player quit after a very short period of use. Next, the remote quit working. Without that, the DVD functions don't work because there's no manual option. VERY EASY TO HOOK UP TO TV..FIRST ONE I WAS ABLE TO HOOK UP TO WATCH AND RECORD.

Be aware - this unit does not record unless you have Dish TV or a cable service. I didn't understand this until I installed it. I cannot attach my TV directly to the unit. I would not have purchased it had I known.
