I couldn't be more happy with this DVD player. It plays all my .AVI files as well as MPG and pretty much any thing I've downloaded and burned onto a DVD-R. It has an excellent picture. Progessive scan, interactive menu. The only thing I don't like is the menu won't show the entire name of the file. It plays all of my DVDs. Even the ones that wouldn't play in a normal DVD player. I've not had it skip or freeze frame, or act wierd while playing back, when other DVD players wouldn't read or play the disk at all. We just got this to replace our Toshiba DVD player that died. It is awesome!! It plays DIVX movies and Windows Media Players and it took 2 seconds to get it to play any region DVDs. Fantastic price for all these features. Plus it looks cool!Digital camera Review: Awesome player for the price.

I love this thing, cant beat the value for the price. Only negatives I have is that the remote is pretty small and I have fat sausage like fingers so its not always a lovely ballet of perfect harmony with my fingers and the buttons . Other thing I do not like is the way the disk sits in the tray, hard to explain but when it comes time to take out a disk, well the size of the tray is large enough where there is no edge of the disk to grab on to to pull it out. This leaves me either trying to slide the disk out of the tray and possibly scratching it or moving my fat sausage fingers under the tray to try and pop the disk up so I can get something to grab onto. The second option isn't pretty due to this things lovely small profile, its very slim which I love but when it comes to me getting my fingers under the tray, well there just isn't a whole lot of room to do so. Spent a little more to get what I *thought* was decent quality from Philips, but it failed after 5 months (2 months out of warranty). An e-mail to the company yielded repair/replacement options that cost more than buying a new player. It suddenly started giving "NO DISC" readings upon inserting a disc. Tried resetting it and shaking it :) to no avail.
Apart from the failure, the remote control and buttons are very small (and you have to be pointing right at it), and there are few buttons on the unit itself, making it difficult to do anything without the remote handy.
Look elsewhere and spend a few more $$ to get a reliable player! Read a lot of good reviews (and very few "dead after 6 months" reviews) for:

To me, one important feature in a DVD player is the ability to remember the last location I played and go straight to this location the next time I resume the DVD. No such luck with this player. Not only is this player difficult to navigate with its remote control and slow response but it conveniently forgets the last location I was at. So if I stop a DVD that contains lots of annoying advertisements or previews that cannot be skipped, I will need to go through the annoyance every time I resume the DVD. Terrible design and I will not buy another Philips DVD player.
