Digital camera Review: Amazing DivX player
Summary: 5 Stars

I took a risk, when I decided to go for this player, but was not sure if it can read all the Xvid and DivX files with AC3 plugin, I was prepared to return it within a month if it did not come, but was amazed to see how it worked. I was able to play all my DivX movies and normal DVD's upscaled.

For sanity purpose I ran a check for the same DivX movie via S-VGA (Laptop) and HDMI (DVD Player) up scaled, and the results were quite different. The colours were brighter and the movie scaled better to fit 16:9. A must recommendation for any with lot of DivX movies.

Now only if I can find a hack to stream over the USB port (is it an overkill!) It would be amazing!

Update: I got a 1TB HDD connected to the player, with all my photo and video collection and can view them anytime I want, without having to keep changing dvds or small 2G flash drives. :)

Digital camera Review: An excellent upconverting DVD player
Summary: 5 Stars

Upconverts DVD's beautifully to 1080p through HDMI. A great alternative for those wanting to wait on purchasing an HDDVD or Blu Ray Player. The USB drive on the front is what sold me on it because I can easily plug in my 5GB flash drive and watch DivX movies that I've downloaded. It also has optical audio out so that you can hook it up to your surround system for crisp digital sound. Aside from being a bit long, it is very thin and sleek with a glossy finish. It will fit beautifully next to your HDTV. I have not found any flaws on this DVD player and am very happy with it. An excellently engineered product that I highly recommend.

Digital camera Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

To go along with my HDTV purchase, I decided to get an upconverting DVD player. I didn't seek out this one for any reason, except that it was inexpensive and I thought the USB port sounded cool.

Wow, it is awesome. Standard DVDs look great. It displays videos great in 16x9. No complaints for DVDs.

However, the best part about it is the USB port. I copied a video file from my computer onto a thumb drive and plugged it in. It worked great - even upconverted my AVI and displayed it 16x9. No concern about codecs or encoding schemes - no problems at all. The USB port is a fantastic feature.

This is a great product. The only concern I have is that the menuing system is a bit difficult to use. I found it tough to figure out how to navigate - it is a bit non-intuitive. However, given the good features of this DVD player, and the low price, I can hardly fault Phillips at all. This is a great product.

Digital camera Review: Awesome DVD player!
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing is great! The main reason for this purchase was for the USB port. It is not included in the description but you can play video files through it. It plays just like if it were a DVD. Very rarely do you see any skipping. I have not used the up converting on this player since I do not have an HDTV yet but that will be a nice feature sometime in the future.

The only con I can think of(which isn't even that bad) is that the dvd tray is very slow to respond when you open it.

Some people may complain that there is no eject button on the remote but if you hold down the stop button for a few seconds it will open the tray.

Digital camera Review: Awesome upconvert dvd player!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased one of these dvd upconvert players and I am very impressed. Most upconvert dvd players are a bit pricey but this one is pretty ood for its features. I tested the upconvert to 1080p with Transformers (2007) and it looked really good, granted its not blu-ray quality. I have this dvd player connected to my Panasonic 46PZ85U 1080p Plasma TV.

Divx feature works nicely as well. This dvd player played most of the divx files I threw at it when I tested it. The picture quality still looked lovely. However, there were some cases were the divx movie's resolution would not be playable on this dvd player. I only tested AVI movie files since most of my movies are in that format.

The remote is pretty simple. I'm used to the remote since it pretty much is the same as most of the other Philips dvd player remotes. The response does lag at times but that isn't a major problem for me. I haven't gotten to tinker with the region=free settings on the player since I hardly watch any foreign movies.

Philips has been a good brand to me and it continues to be one with this dvd upconvert player. I would highly recommend this player to those who are looking for a really good upncoverting dvd player for an affordable price. You will not be disappointed!
