This is a very basic DVD Player but that is all that I needed...it plays DVDs. But for the low price, it is perfect. This is the best DVD player. I will recommend this for everybody. It has this USB port you can just attach your external hard drive and play any sort of movie. It supports avi, mp3, wmv, mpeg format I tried so far. Works Great! This dvd player has same abilities media abilities Xbox 360 or PS3 has but look at the price ... A few days ago I didn't even know such deal exists! Region Code Free? 1080p upconversion? $60? Free shipping? 30 years ago I got to know the Philips brand and this DVP5982 is the first Philips product I ever owned. And this is the best deal I ever had! After reading all the raving reviews I decided to get 1 of these from Amazon and 1 from the phillips outlet (refurbished). Both of these worked amazingly once I update the firmware from the website. They upconvert to 1080p perfectly and you really can see the different on a 46" sharp lcd. The only problem I encountered was when using HDMI I had no sound at first. On the Sharp lcd I had to unplug the composite audio then it worked.
