My husband is from the UK and had brought all of his UK DVDs with him when he moved 3 years ago. We had previously bought another unit that was too complicated to figure out (and never did actually play the UK DVDs), so we took it back. A few months ago we decided to try again and ordered this one. It works great for the price and hopefully it will last a little bit longer than another poster's "one year." Plus, you can plug a USB "memory stick" in and view pictures on the TV if you want. We do not use it much since the majority of our DVDs work on our other DVD for the US zone. I searched high and low for a durable, reasonably-priced dvd player that we could play my daughter's French dvds on, as opposed to always using the portable player we bought overseas. After reading many other reviews, I settled on this one and am SO glad I did! It came very well-packaged and had lots of air cushioning. The remote is actually black, not gray like the picture indicates. The dvd player itself is very light-weight, which is the only reason I gave it three stars under "Durability." There were detailed instructions right on top with about 5 steps telling you how to set it to Region 0, which plays all dvd regions.
I'll also go ahead and throw in there that I am a mom, and I was able to hook this thing up in about 5 minutes without any idea what I was doing! It really is that easy and simple. It runs very quietly, so much so that at first I wasn't sure it was working! Our previous player was very noisy. We have no current use for the USB drive on the front, but might find future use for it. So far I am very pleased with this dvd player, and look forward to playing all my European as well as American dvds on one device.

Last night, the region-free DVD player that is the backbone of our family's entertainment (being from Slovakia and living in the USA) froze and stopped reading all DVD's- NTSC or PAL. This product was great right till the end, but the fact is that the one year warranty went out just two months ago. This is very likely a case of "built-in obsolescence." When I called the manufacturer, they appologized for the inconvenience- and left us to buy another one. Therefore- let the buyer beware: you may be buying one every year... just after warranty.
