Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY THIS even if you are an AV installer!

I used to say I could do anything with computers and A/V equipment. After all, I've been doing it since 1968. So what's to be afraid of a top-of-the-line universal remote control. In this case, plenty! This device is designed only for those who are going to make their living installing them over and over.
* The instructions are complex
* modern equipment is unknown to it and has to be handled manually
* the sample layouts available for download have complex backgrounds
unsuitable for people who want clean uncluttered screens
BUT WORST OF ALL: the device will not work with anything more advanced than Windows XP. That means you have to keep one computer running on that good but extinct OS. There are no plans by the company to make this model work for Vista and Windows 7. If you are doing this professionally, and the end-user wants to update to new equipment, forget it, because s/he won't have XP. As people migrate to newer versions, the old ones become unusable. Imagine a customer saying, "Hey, I paid you $500 to program this. Now I have more equipment and want you to update it, and you tell me you CAN'T?" That's a quick way to lose all your references.
EVEN IF YOU ARE BUYING A LATER MODEL, the company has shown it doesn't care if it leaves you as an end-user or as a professional installer completely up a tree with a very expensive piece of equipment.
I wouldn't buy anything from this company again, because I don't trust them to screw me on something else. This is a corporate policy/culture issue that will permeate all their products.
DO NOT BUY UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROLS FROM THIS COMPANY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
