Digital camera reviews of Philips VOIP841 PC-Free DECT 6.0 Wireless IP Phone

Digital camera Review: totally satisfied
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy set up, once the battery of the handset was charged I was making my first Skype call the next minute. (I had been using my wireless hi-speed access point already for a few years, with my notebook computer. And I already had been using Skype with my notebook, so skype-wise I was in good shape when the Philips machine arrived.) I don't believe in manuals (actually, I don't remember whether my purchase came with a manual) but the whole set-up and operation goes very intuitively.
By now I've been using the Philips machine for one month. No lock-ups, no re-starts. The only occasional problem is with Skype itself, nothing to do with Philips. (On international calls, Skype doesn't always recognize the offhook event on the other end of a SkypeOut call. With time, the Skype people should be able to fix this kind of teething problem.) Voice quality of the Philips system is excellent - my Skype calls sound better than with my landline, no noise no echo, although I should add that my voice landline is in bad shape, I should call out the phone company. Automatic downloading of contacts goes without a hitch. Altogether I'm pleasantly surprised how well the whole thing works, particularly if you consider the complexity of the arrangement. I had been afraid that my technophobic family would reject the new arrival, but nothing like it!

Digital camera Review: Very good phone
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this phone to use SkypeOut without having to use a computer. After about a months use, I am very satisfied with the phone and Skyeout Service.
If you use Vonage or another VoIP provider, Skypeout will save you approximately $22 per month, this savings will pay for this phone in about 6 months. The quality is comparable to VoIP.
Pros
- Excellent design
- Interfaces with Skype without a computer
- Redial History is pretty long
- Works with a normal phone line as well (dual line).
Cons
- Range is a little less than other phones. I have my base in the
basement. When I go to the second floor, the quality deteriorates slightly. This could be because of the new 1.8GHz that Cordless phones are using.

Over all an excellent phone!

Digital camera Review: Slick little number
Summary: 4 Stars

Fantastic reception even at distance, easy to use menus, and extremely easy to set up.
Most annoying is the phone book which only uses the Skype phone book. Never really wanted the local pizza joint in my skype phone list.
And it takes a few tries to get used to pressing dial twice.
Wish it could send a few quick text messages via Skype, but I knew that wasn't available.

Digital camera Review: Great Idea. Execution? Not as Good
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this because of the phone's ability to be used as both a landline and for Skype long distance without hooking up to a computer. The Skype features work great, and the color screen is nice.

My only issue is with the headset itself. I like regular phones because they are easy to talk on and the audio quality is superior compared to cell phones. However, this phone is very small and for most people does not fit the face well. It is a lot like talking on an old style large cell phone.

The audio quality is very good on both landline and Skype due to the DECT 6.0, which works great because it doesn't have the interference that the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz phones sometimes have.

All in all, this is a solid choice for a DECT cordless phone if you are a Skype user. Otherwise, there are better options for you for DECT phones, including Philips itself.

Digital camera Review: Definitely a yes!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been a user of Skype for years but had only used the headset option through my pc's. I've looked at voip phones over time and was always dissuaded by the price. After reading the reviews and testing this phone from a friend, I was sold. The price is fair and the reception provided is very crisp and clear. I would purchase again, if needed.
