Digital camera Review: Great Headset for Google Voice via Gmail (GTalk)
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this headset new from Amazon after a bit of comparison. The typical headphone looking set with boom mic is not my style. I didn't think at first the style of this set would work with me, but you can barely tell you are wearing it! Its very light weight and PLENTY of cord to work with, no extensions needed for this one.

My main objective was to find a reliable headset for use with Google Voice via my Gmail plugin. The headset is clearer than my cell phone using the service, and people cannot tell I'm on a computer. I use Google Voice via my Blackberry on Verizon exclusively and never drop calls or have degraded line issues, using over 1000 minutes per month. This is going to save me bucks, and also relieve me of my infinite search of a GTalk headset. I compared a couple of other interesting products along the way:

A4Tech KIP(S) 900 (VoIP headset on keyboard) (Emailed support, foreign company... can't find ANYONE who sells this thing).

Skype Everyman Freetalk

In the end, this is a super affordable, high quality headset. Its great that it also supports cellular phone use and I will probably use that some day!

Digital camera Review: Great USB headset for PC use
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted a new single-ear headset to use for some PC gaming. However, I wanted it to be USB, so I could have game audio from my surround speakers and chat (Xfire) in my earpiece. There aren't many good single-ear USB headsets out there, but this one (with the included USB adapter) seemed to have some decent general reviews. My friend and I each bought one and have been using them in-game for over a month now. We couldn't be happier with them. The sound quality we get has been excellent. There's been no static, no fuzziness, and no muffling. It's crystal clear every time. I wanted a single-ear headset because I hate when my ears are covered and they get hot. While the comfort is nothing exceptional on this style (hook under the ear and angle earpiece in), I've been able to play for a couple hours at a time with no real discomfort or distraction. The cord is also plenty long, with an on/off mic switch about a foot down from the earpiece for convenience. I can't speak to its quality as a phone headset, but for PC use I cannot recommend this any more enthusiastically.

Digital camera Review: Great all-round headset
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great headset/mic for making SKYPE calls on your computer at home or on the road - it also works with many home cordless phones and some cell phones (more on that in a bit). It is very lightweight and compact, goes over one ear (vs having the more traditional headset band that goes over the whole head) and uses a cable so you don't have to mess with configuring the Bluetooth wireless. You have to fidget a bit to get it on your ear but then it sits there nicely. The sound quality is superb despite the modest price, it eliminates the echo that often creeps into SKYPE calls, and helps eliminate background noise from being broadcasted. In addition, it keeps you from feeling so silly just talking at the PC screen while on an important SKYPE call. This model has a USB adapter so it plugs into a USB jack on PC or Mac (vs. the audio jacks), which also helps with sound quality - just point the PC and SKYPE to the newly found MX audio device that will show in a drop down list on the audio controls. We have two of these headsets and used them quite successfully while my husband was traveling abroad.

My husband also uses it with our home cordless phone for long calls as it plugs into the side of any cordless phone that has a 2.5 mm connector. It allows you to go roam the house while gaining the quality of a hands-free headset.

We tried to use the MX500i with our iPhones as well, but had mixed results. The iPhone uses a 3.5 mm mini-RCA connector while the MX500i assumes a smaller 2.5 mm plug. We got a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm adapter from Amazon and it worked fine with the iPhone 3G as a headset/mic, but for some unapparent reason, it would NOT work with the iPhone 4 or iPad even after swapping pieces as the mic cuts in and out. We suspect there is some sort of Apple/connector/MX500i/Skype incompatibility as we swapped out pieces and still had no luck with the iPhone 4 or iPad.

All around a great lightweight USB headset for your computer and phones that have the smaller 2.5 mm plug.

Digital camera Review: Great clear sound and a microphone clients can actually hear!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered several headsets for our office customer service staff to try out and the Plantronics MX500i was the ONLY one out of five of them that anyone liked. It has clear sound and both parties can hear each other without trouble. It is light, comfortable and easy to keep in use all day without a large ear bud (some of the ladies wanted these simply because they fit in the ear better) and we have not had a single complaint from a client or staff using the headset.

You do get what you pay for, spend the few extra dollars and buy this headset rather than any others.
