Digital camera reviews of Plantronics UPCALISTO Bluetooth HeadsetDigital camera Review: Could be better Summary: 3 Stars
Bought this from Amazon and it arrived quickly. The product does as stated . . . analog line and VOIP. Works fine with good voice quality, which you would expect from a Plantronics headset.
However, the handset is poorly designed and cheaply constructed. To use with USB/VOIP, you need to turn a "radio link" on via the computer / no handset control. I have had issues periodically with it suddenly squealing a high-pitch sound which can be remediated only by unplugging power. Plus, the speakerphone is the worst I have ever used.
So, the bottom line is that I would be very happy if it were an $80 unit. For $210, I am disappointed. I am keeping it because there are limited options for USB/VOIP headset, but this could be so much better.
Digital camera Review: Could use some improvement Summary: 3 Stars
I have used Plantronics at work and I have a Plantronics bluetooth for my cell phone so I thought I was going to be much happier with this than I am.
I recevied the phone a few weeks ago. I don't like the headset and would prefer something different. The Plantronics bluetooth piece for my cell phone fits much better.
Withink a few days of purchase I broke the little button in the headset that activates the phone and they had to send me a new one. Warrant service from Plantronics was easy but the headset they sent is slightly different. The old one used to verbally tell me when I lost connection with the base, now it just beeps. Also there is no mute feature on the headset and you have to mute using the phone.
The phone is designed like a small cell phone and I don't like the size of the keys. It's fine when I carry something in my pocket but not at home.
Caller ID does not retain the name of the caller.
I like that fact that I can answer both my cell and house phone using the same headset. I work from home and receive calls on both lines.
It picks up line noise from the fans on my tower PC case. Not bad but I am sure that's where its coming from. A line filter would help.
I think Plantronics needs to do a little work on this before it becomes a great model worth the money.
Digital camera Review: DTMF doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
Why did Forbes list this in the top 7 cool bluetooth gadgets? Probably because they never tested it.
Phone design is good in terms of ergonomics.
DECT range is good... this is the handset to base connection... but this is inherent with any DECT 6.0 system.
Bluetooth headset works ok.
Voice Quality seems to be acceptable even despite the fact that your voice is being transmitted through bluetooth, then DECT.
Handset OS is outdated, even a cheap cell phone is better.
Biggest problem, DTMF doesn't work. This means when I check voicemail and punch in my passcode, the voicemail system does not recognize the digits. Why? Because the phone does not meet the standard DTMF specification, which means any tone detector on the receiving side cannot detect the digits. I believe this is primarily because the tone length produced by the Calisto Pro is not long enough. I use this phone for conferences all the time, and because of this DTMF problem, I have to dial into the conference bridge with another phone, then transfer to the Calisto Pro. I asked tech support if they are planning to do a SW upgrade because obviously this issue makes this phone unusable for most people, there was no response from Plantronics.
Digital camera Review: Dear Plantronics Summary: 1 Stars
All your company does is make phones. How come you can't make one that works?
Really - this thing is a piece of junk. Did you forget to test it to see if it makes noise on every call, or did it just have to ship to meet a marketing deadline?
On a positive note - good job on the marketing - you got me to waste my time on this worthless piece of technology. Perhaps a little more concentration on the product rather than the message...
Digital camera Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I have been using this device for several months. In summary, it is a good idea badly executed. I recommend that anyone thinking of buying it wait until Plantronics bring out a better model. Here are some of my complaints.
The headset becomes uncomfortable when it is worn for an extended period. I have suggested to Plantronics that there should be an over the head option.
The dial pad buttons are badly designed, too small and annoyingly hard to use. The buttons on my Blackberry are smaller but much more user-friendly.
The lowest volume level on the handset (and through the headset) is too loud and cannot be reduced.
If you only use the handset with a cell phone it may be fine, but switching between Skype and Dragon Naturally Speaking and the handset and my Blackberry is fiddly and often does not work. If my Logitech Wireless keyboard can have programmable buttons, surely Plantronics could work out how to add programmable buttons to the handset and base unit to allow instant switching between programs.
The Bluetooth connection with my Blackberry is constantly problematic. It fails to connect at least once in every 3 attempts.
Finally, Plantronics provides software to transfer phone numbers from Outlook to the handset but it does not work. First, names on the handset can only be listed alphabetically by first name whereas I suspect most of us list by last name. There is no option to change this. Second, (and this may not affect many other users) I make many international calls. Inserting a "+" in front of a telephone number in a cell phone/Blackberry is an internationally recognized method of indicating to the carrier that what follows is an international call. But apparently this is news to Plantronics because their software deletes the "+"; I have had to reenter far too many international numbers in the Plantronics handset.
I am looking for a replacement.
