Digital camera Review: Extremely useful product
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm delighted with this purchase even though I'm aghast to see that it went up nearly a hundred dollars since I bought it last summer. I thought electronics were supposed to be going down in price! But never mind that, I'm not reviewing the price but the product and it is good. I ended up installing a lot of software that I didn't end up using because I wasn't sure about the software interdependencies but once that was all done, I got to work and was soon successfully scanning away. Even though you must (natch) scan each slide individually, you develop a rhythm and it is quite possible to multitask on small things or play spider solitaire whilst working. I ended up scanning nearly 1200 slides and it took me approximately 16 hours (on and off over the course of several days). There was such joy in seeing 50-year-old slides come to life! I messed up a couple of times and put a slide in backwards. Not to worry. You can correct that sort of thing with the viewing software and also rotate those pesky sideways pictures. This was a pricey item, even before the price hike, but I've already got folks lining up to borrow it so I think that it will have been a worthwhile investment (I work on the barter system - a bottle of wine or some cookies in trade). Another thing that mattered to me: I have a pretty crowded desktop and it doesn't take up a lot of space. Plus it makes cool sounds that baffle the cat.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic Scanner for the Price
Summary: 5 Stars

This scanner is fantastic. I'm only using the "quick scan" functions and I'm getting wonderful scans. I've scanned them at 2400 dpi and put them on my 42" plasma television. They look wonderful. Others have commented that the bundled software can be difficult to install or confusing. You don't need to install it or use it, not with a Windows XP machine anyway. I probably won't bother to install it. The scanner is well built. The slide holder is very nice - each slot is sort of spring loaded so the slides go in easy and they are held snug. The slide holder can go in either side and it is notched so you know when the slide is in the correct place. The instructions say to point the top of the slide toward the back of the scanner. This is fine for images that are landscape. For images that are portrait, you will have to rotate the slide 90 degrees or the scanner will crop your slide. I scanned slides at 1200 dpi and they still had plenty of detail for the 42" t.v. The color was a little off though. I suppose that could be corrected with software. Scanning at 24 dpi takes less than a minute. Be sure to get all the dust off the slides before scanning. I'm using a very soft paint brush right now. I will be getting some compressed air. If you using only the software for the quick scan function, you will get an icon in tray on your desktop. You double click on that icon and choose the initial settings for your scans - file type, dpi, file name, file location, etc. You can also tell the software to let you preview adjust the scans. After you make your choices, close the window and then you push the quick scan button on the scanner for each slide you scan. You can set the software so it will give you a preview of the slide. You can make additional adjustments and then click on the button in that window to do the final scan. The selection of the area it will scan is always off some, sometimes by a lot. It's easy enough to adjust so you get the whole slide. When the scanner is done with that slide, it saves the file where you told it with the name you gave it plus an increasing number and the window closes. Move the holder so the next slide is ready and push the quick scan button again. It is very simple. You don't need to be intimidated by software with this machine.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic Unit!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before buying the Plustek Opticfilm 7200, I did tons of research on both flatbed and dedicated slide scanners. After reading hundreds of reviews all I can say is that I was confused whether to go with a Canon flatbed or take a chance on the Plustek.

Well, I took the plunge and bought the 7200. I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION. I love it and for the price, you can't go wrong.

I had it set up and running in less than 5 minutes scanning old musty slides at 3600 dpi ... could go higher but getting brilliant scans with 3600 and, it's quick.

Go for it.

Digital camera Review: Fast shipping, great product

I ordered this film scanner for my dad's Christmas present. It was on my doorstep two days later, and my dad loved it.

Digital camera Review: First class scanner
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this scanner in desparation to try to save some of my slides. Due to my frequent moves I was not able to store my valuable slides properly and mould had begun to grow on some.
The scanner I found was excellent value for money. It was very easy to set up and use even for a non-techie like me.
The quality of the scanned images surprised me, I did not expect to get such high quality digital images from such a modestly priced scanner.
I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it to any photographer who has slides that need to be archived.
