Digital camera Review: Best 35mm scanner (for the price)
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, It's slow but worth the wait. I left film photography several years ago to get "into" the digital era. But I missed the quality of Ilford and Kodak B&W film. Plus I have tons of Negatives laying around. As a result, I've taken my old film camera's out from storage (Nikon fe, Nikon f100) and began shooting several roles. I then decided to have most of my c41/b&w film developed at the local mini lab and scanned on a disc for digital editing... The best of both worlds I thought.
But something was missing... I soon realized that taking film to get developed by others takes the fun out AND is frequently a hit or miss experience. So I dug into my storage room and found my developing/darkroom equipment and then began to do some research on quality 35mm scanners. Plustek was the best for it's price and was recently reviewed on Shutterbug mag. The downfall... Plustek Opticfilm 7200 wasn't MAC compatible. BUT... to my surprise this new model (7300) as well as the 7500 are now MAC compatible. Fairly quick and painless to set up and get started. And yes it takes some time to scan (especially at highter res) but I'm in no hurry especially since I'm so particular of results. I totally recommend this scanner to anyone looking to digitize old 35mm film or for those creative folks that want to use both analog and digital formats. Does the trick!

Digital camera Review: EASY AND WOKS WELL BUT SLOW
Summary: 4 Stars

Haven't done too much with this scanner yet, but my dad and I pulled it out of the box and had it scanning sides in less than 15 minutes. Documentation for mac is a little confusing, wasn't sure that it would work for the mac at first since the was no driver software for the mac, but there was driver software for pc platform. Scan resolution is amazing and the color controls seem quite generous. Machine is slow at high resolutions.

Digital camera Review: Easy! Even a caveman can do it....
Summary: 5 Stars

I Received the Plustek OpticFilm 7300 35mm film scanner a few days after it was ordered for me as a birthday gift; it arrived at my home in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in mint condition. It took me longer to find the instructions than it took to hook it up. I followed the six steps, loaded a 35mm color transparency (slide) pushed the IntelliScan button and saved it to a folder I'd built for copies. The first trial scan was a bit dark, so I used the on-screen adjustments and played for a couple of hours. One thing I should have purchased at the same time was a bulb/brush to clean the film. Some of my slides are 45 years old and are a tad dusty. Things tend to get that way in a den.

Digital camera Review: Excellent device at great price
Summary: 5 Stars

The Plustek Opticfilm 7300 has proven to be an excellent scanner. The software installation was a snap ans altough the instructions are a bit scattered they come together as one uses the machine. After trying four other scanners with poor results the Opticfilm has been has given me results which capture the quality of the aoriginal film image. The included software provides enough adjustments that most difficult exposures can be adjusted for acceptable results prior to scanning (and detailed fixes can then be made in photoshop). I have scanned about 700 slides with the Opticfilm ( scan times can be a bit slow depending on dpi and details selected) the results are worth the time. Anyway the scan time can be put to good use - selecting other slides for scanning or reading a good book for example. Usually I find some point of disappointment with photo electronics ( I'm an old school film photographer who began making the digital transition about 2 years ago) but the Opticfilm 7300 has performed a great job.

Digital camera Review: Excellent machine
Summary: 5 Stars

It is easy to use - especially with film strips - and the scanning software is excellent. Cropping and placing the scan area is simple and easy. Slides snap into position easily, accurately and firmly. It is much easier to use than using adapters on most flat bed scanners.
