Digital camera reviews of Polycom SoundPoint Pro SE-225 Phone Power Supply IncludedDigital camera Review: Good Analog Phone - Could use some updating Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
The Soundpoint Pro SE-225 is a solid analog phone. It has a pleasing shape and works as advertised. I have experienced no humming or quality issues that some of the reviewers have had.
Cons:
The speaker volume control is somewhat loud even when it is turned down all the way. It would be nice to turn down the volume to zero or mute. This product is due for a technical upgrade. It has been around for years, without any significant visible updates. A audio output would be nice to have so that I could better record some of the technical webinars I attend. The LED screen design could be significantly upgraded with color, size and resolution.
Why I didn't I just purchase a IP phone?
I work in a virtual environment, and our digital team is spread across the nation. On our daily project call, the two guys that have the worst voice quality in terms of sound level and breakups, both use IP phones. IP phones also seem to degrade webinar bandwidth as opposed to analog (even though my analog phone is on a digital line).
So, I did my research, and this seems to be one of the best analog small office phones available. The $59-$99 RCA or ATT phones just didn't have adequate sound.
Digital camera Review: Good Phone, Lacks features... Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this phone for over a week. I love the quality of speakerphone thus far. People can hardly tell if I am speaker or handset...However, For a SOHO phone, Polycom has missed the mark on "HOME OFFICE" part. I make a lot of conference calls and all of them have passcodes etc...I am disappointed with the speed dial capability.
1) Only 10 numbers for easy dial. Rest are a pain to manually scroll.
2) The pause in speed dial isn't even enough to get past a couple of rings and/or a voice prompt...I almost always have to enter passcodes etc manually.
3) I wish it came with those collapsable legs like on a computer keyboard to give it a little incline. The display is not visible if u are at an angle or slightly away from the phone.
I guess they are phone company, not a feature company. Love the phone, could use the features to make life really comfortable. Concerned about the power surge possibility posted by others. Hope I dont have to go through that.
Digital camera Review: Good but minor problems... Summary: 3 Stars
As a speakerphone, I like the phone. No problems.Three minor issues -- (1) There is a dataport connector on the back of the phone. This would be good if you wanted to daisy chain your fax machine or modem off the phone, you would expect most people to do this with "line 2", but the data port is "line 1". (2) There is a volume control, but even if you change the speakerphone volume to really low, the touch tones ARE STILL LOUD AS NORMAL (waking up the family). (3) The handset seems too cheap to me and as a very hollow sound. Otherwise, like the phone. Speakphone is good quality, I purchased the unit becuase I am sitting on conferences calls listening to people pontificate.
Digital camera Review: Good enough for the price? Summary: 3 Stars
Maybe. The jury is still out on this product. I bought this for my home office on the basis that my company uses the commercial Polycom commercial speakerphones all over the globe and those units seem to perform quite well no matter where in the world they happen to be deployed. The sound quality on the SE-225 seems sub-par, and the built-in headphone amplifier (I am using the top-of-the line Sennheiser CC540 headset) produces an audible hum even 25% of the headset volume setting.
Digital camera Review: Good functionality and quality Summary: 4 Stars
This phone has excellent voice quality, including in conference mode. The only reasons it doesn't get 5 stars from me is that :
a) it is unable to operate if there is a power outage - as opposed to perhaps just losing some of its functionality . Just make sure it isn't the only phone in your home.
b) there is a bug which occasionnally renders it unable to operate. I can't figure out what causes it. It may be my cats that walk on it at night and press a weird sequence wit their paws :). The only cure I have found is to pull the power plug, which reboots it.
