Digital camera Review: Great speakerphone, but mediocre handset sound quality
Summary: 4 Stars

The sound quality on this speakerphone is great. People on the other end can tell you are on a speakerphone, but so far no one has asked me to pick up the handset (which they often do when you are using a cheaper speakerphone.) The full-duplex feature seems to work well.

However, I am totally puzzled by why the sound quality is so poor when using the corded handset (one of the reasons I switched from a cordless to a corded phone was to get better sound quality, which I'm not sure I got). The sound is unnatural, and there is a loud omnipresent buzz (which the other party can here as well), which gets louder when you put your hand near the coiled cord (almost as if it were acting as an antenna.) Replacing the coiled cord did not help. For a $200+ phone, I expected much better handset sound quality. The phone is physically well-made and the controls are intuitive. I'm going to keep it, but mostly because its just getting really hard to find a corded phone with good sound quality -- no matter how much you spend.

Digital camera Review: Great when it works
Summary: 2 Stars

Wonderful quality speakerphone when it works. I have not found anything to compare. However, my first phone failed after 2 weeks - it would not hang up the line. My replacement phone lasted less than a week - no dial tone. I've just requested a 2nd replacement; if it doesn't last I'll be looking for something else.

Digital camera Review: Hardware quality
Summary: 2 Stars

The sound and ease of use is acceptable. The numbers on the keypads are unacceptably cheaply made it is now almost erased and not readable.

After 1 year 2 months of daily use, the numbers are now almost erased. I wish that the quality of the number is high quality considering this is a commercial phone, i.e, not home phone use. It is geared for business heavy use and yet after a short while the numbers are hardly readable.

Digital camera Review: High Quality Phone
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this phone given the mixed reviews. Ultimately, I was glad I did. The phone has an excellent build quality and doesn't require batteries. Many speaker phones with caller ID require batteries and those batteries drain very quickly. I have two lines into this phone and they are easily managed with the console buttons. Yes, the display should be angled up since it is a desk phone and you are usally not right on top of it, however, imo, not a deal breaker. Yes, it is true, while you can set ring tones, ring volumes and the dial tone volume, I have not located a way to adjust the keypad volume which can be a bit on the loud side in a quiet environment. Now on to the voice quality over the speaker which so many people have had issue with. Your voice will have that typical Polycom sound, a bit on the high side and it will sound like you are talking from a large room, however, no echo, just kind of like a concert hall EQ if you will. The voice quality is very clear and the two-way duplexing is unmatched. For an analog two line A/C operated full-duplex speakerphone with caller-id, I just don't know what other alternatives are out there other than this Polycom phone. The Panasonic's have lackluster reviews and the "office" phones you would find in a large company are usally digital pbx. Now, I'm no phone expert, however, I see no reason not to reccomend this phone. It is abit on the expensive side and you are likely paying a premium for the Polycom name, but the phone is solidly built and works well.

Digital camera Review: Looks good, but not best performance
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had this phone for about three years. I bought it primarily to use it as a good quality speaker-phone (with mute) for long conference calls. It was quite expensive (I paid $200 to get it) but here are what I have found to be its shortcomings: No caller-id display. This just baffles me. I get caller-Id on all other phones in the house except this one. I have tried every possible varient (resetted settings, disconnected other phones, etc.) but nothing works: I always get "NO ID MESSAGE" on the LCD. The second major shortcoming is that called-parties often complain about the feedback on the speakerphone. One way to reduce that is by lowering the volume significantly, but that sort-of defeats the purpose of having a good speakerphone. Another minor shortcoming is that the phone requires to be powered even though it is a corded-phone (hence will not work in case of emergencies). Finally, two connect two lines you have to use an ugly adapter. One good thing about the phone is that it looks quite good, has a professional appearance, and claims to have a duplex-speakerphone.
