Digital camera reviews of Power Supply Tester 2.0 20/24

Digital camera Review: Easy to Use
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy as it gets. Plug the 20/24 pin molex in and read the lights. Check the other molex connectors such as the 4 pin and see if there is trouble there! EASY.

It is straight forward but does not tell what the readings SHOULD be.

Easy to carry around, slips into any tool bag or pocket.

I have had this item for over a year now and use it regularly.

Digital camera Review: Good Buy

I recently had two of my household computers crash. Both just quit working. This is usually a power supply problem. This Tool will save you time and money diagnosing whether or not it is your power supply that died. I would definitely recommend this item to a friend.

Digital camera Review: Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally got to try out the product while troubleshooting a dead system today. It worked great......in other words it correctly identified a dead powersupply without me having to swap out powersupplies in order to find out if the powersupply was indeed the failing part. So it did exactly what it said it would do.

Digital camera Review: It only tells if your power supply is dead
Summary: 3 Stars

My PS failed to power up the PC. It turned out that the 12+V line is 10.99V which is below the min spec of 11.4V. A new PS did the trick. However, when I tested the damaged PS with this device, all LEDs show green. This device will be good if the PS is dead; it can tell you that. Otherwise, it will give you a wrong assumption (some previous users made comments on this but I failed to pay attention to. This review is to re-emphasize this fact). A good old multimeter is the way to go.

Digital camera Review: Looks great - Does NOT work for most applications - STAY AWAY!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this to test a PSU that I suspected as having problems. Sadly, it told me that the PSU was working fine. I swapped Power Supplies, and the motherboard fires up, with the suspected bad PSU, I get lights (on the motherboard) and the fans spin, but it won't POST or even fire for that matter.

I bust out the multimeter, and lo and behold, the 12V 4 pin rail is only pushing about 8.8 - 9.0 Volts. I check the known good PSU, and it reads 12V exactly. I check the suspected PSU on the molex 4 pins, and same thing, 8.8 - 9.0 Volts, the 5V portion comes up perfectly. The "tester" reads the 4 pin molex plug as working as well.

My best conclusion is that the "tester" from Ultra merely tests for continuity, but does not actually check voltage/amps. Sadly, this product looks pretty, and may very well detect some bad PSU's, but should not be relied on, as there is a LOT more than just an incomplete circuit that can go wrong with a PSU.

I've seen a few other PSU testers that claim they test for high/low voltage as well, and I'm going to check them out and see how they perform compared to this product.
