I am using it on DSL and it doesn't cause me any problems.
I haven't face a surge yet, so I can't say how good its protection is.

Data line surges make up an overwhelming majority of all surge induced damages where the equipment was thought to be already protected but had a "back door" such as a modem line unprotected.
