Digital camera reviews of RCA/MSN TV 2 Internet and Media PlayerDigital camera Review: NOT...GOOD ! Summary: 1 Stars
I am returning my msntv2 unit for a full refund...it doesnt live up to the expectations of the phillips webtv plus unit I had that was destroyed in a power storm...I wish they were not bought out and still made these wonderful units that I could take my family videos and freeze frame pics to relatives...with this unit you cannot. Also it seems you could do more with the webtv plus than with this unit. I have to give the msntv 2 unit a very poor rating. I wish these companies would realize that sometimes newer is not always better !
Digital camera Review: Nice product Summary: 4 Stars
I deleted my former review because there was a silly mistake in it. The older epson printer
works fine now that I used a cable (Duh!!). Both cables (ethernet and USB) came with my comcast self installation kit. Set up was easy, just a phone call to Comcast so they could activate the modem. Save money on my phone bill now without that pesky landline not to mention the 6 month discount from comcast and the reduced MSN fee. True, I can't copy CD's or DVD's and download software but thats OK for now, I just don't want to spend a fortune on phone, Tv and internet subscriptions until it all gets consolidated,
Digital camera Review: Not what I expected :( Summary: 2 Stars
I have owned my RCA WEBTV PLUS for about 6 years, when I had no choice but to upgrade to the new and so called improved RCA MSNTV/2 unit. I had to replace my outdated model because I could no longer access most of the websites I frequently used like eBay, and my online banking services etc...So I decided to purchase the MSNTV/2 unit to see if it was any better than my old unit.......
Well, first off this is my second msntv/2 unit, It was constantly kicking me offline stating that I had an incoming phone call, when indeed "I DID NOT" have a phone call coming in...
There is a sensitivity level feature that you use to increase or decrease the sensitivity in which your phoneline disconnects you from the internet to take an incoming call... ( This feature doesn't doesn't work at all I'm guessing....
So I decreased the sensitivity level to see if that would do the trick, and that didn't work at all, so I returned the unit for a replacement, my new unit is just a little worse ;-)
The new unit I received does the same exact thing :( Can you believe that one, go figure LOL... Also my unit loses power after 30 minutes of browsing the internet, it just loses power as if there were a power failure amazing huh folks :) Then what you must do is log on and start all over again, how awful is that aww :(
I'm figuring that most of these units have similiar flaws, that need to be corrected....I wasn't about to send back this unit only to find myself w/ another defective unit that had to be returned again and again until they sent me one that worked perfectly yeah right lol ;-) I'm keeping this unit flaws an all, for now anyway :)
The keyboard misses way too many keystrokes which to say the least is "SUPER ANNOYING" argggg...
RCA/MSNTV/2 Really needed to perfect this unit, before placing it on the market, wouldn't you agree folks?....
It would be a nice jesture on their part (RCA MSNTV/2) if they would correct this flaw w/ the keyboard, then offer to replace the keyboard free of charge to all who purchased this inferior product!....
One of the features I really miss is the picture in picture feature, plus many more features that the older webtv plus unit had to offer :(
I did have to purchase another compatible printer for this unit though, which works great by the way, it was a refurbished HP MODEL 5150, which would highly recommend by the way :)
There is no webpage builder, which was a nice feature to have, I don't really understand why (RCA/MSNTV2) didn't stick w/ all the same features that the RCA WEBTV PLUS has to offer. It would have been ideal if they basially included all the same features as the original webtv model, plus added even more really cool features as well. Then added an updated browser, that would have been incredible, don't ya think? ;-) If you read the majority of the feedbacks for this item, you'll see that most folks are unhappy w/ their purchase :( RCA MSNTV/2 ARE YOU LISTENING AHEMMMM ;-)
The bottom line is, either live w/ the design flaws w/ the RCA MSNTV/2 UNIT or just run out and buy a computer, thats your best bet tee hee :O) Especially if you have very little patience dealing w/ these aggravating little annoying feature flaws grrrr ;-) lol, all in all webtv is a convenient way to access the internet, unlike a computer you do not have to worry about viruses, upgrades, expensive repairs, etc, etc....For the money, webtv can be a more reasonable alternative to actually purchasing a computer...In the long run you'll have to take the plunge, unless webtv becomes greatly improved, and less of a headache to use folks :O)
All in all, I guess I'll put up w/ it for now, until I take the plunge at some point to invest in the real deal a "Computer" tee hee :)
Best of luck to all who purchased this less than perfect webtv unit...
Digital camera Review: Not your daddy's WebTV Summary: 4 Stars
Tired of paying $24.95/mo for what was essentially an obsolete e-mail device, I decided to replace my old WebTV plus unit which we had used for 8 years with something more high tech. I got a pocket PC for my wife to use for her e-mail, scheduling, some web browsing (quick weather check), etc. From the beginning I had problems configuring the pocket PC with our DSL network. Sometimes it connected, and sometimes it didn't. I also couldn't get the Outlook interface to work with the e-mail settings. It would receive, but it wouldn't send. Since my wife is decidedly non-geeky, I was afraid she would give up using it in frustration, and it would become a very expensive paperweight.
In the meantime I was selling the WebTV unit and looking for a pdf of the Users Guide when I happened to check out the information on MSN TV 2. It was a revelation. WebTV had gone broadband! The more I read the more it seemed like the perfect solution - maintain the familiar comfort level of WebTV for my wife and add new and faster functions using our existing network. I immediately ordered one and that night returned the pocket PC for a refund and picked up the MSN TV 2 unit.
Set up was very easy. I used Ethernet cable (not included) to connect to the router and the supplied wiring to connect to the TV. It immediately found the network and walked me through setting up and transferring the account from the old WebTV to MSN TV. I chose the discount broadband option (goodbye $25/mo!). The response time was very quick, the keyboard has a nice feel to it, and we played around with streaming video and audio from the internet. Everything worked as advertised. Later I connected over the network to my laptop PC with no trouble and ran a slideshow of our latest camping weekend trip. I was also able to view video saved on the laptop's hard drive. The MSN TV 2 network interface was quick, and the file structure mirrored what was on the laptop. All I had to do was share out the files on the laptop to make it happen. My wife picked right up and caught up on the e-mail that had been piling up since I bought the pocket PC.
Broadband makes this unit well worth the price and then some. I wouldn't have picked it if it still only operated using dial-up and didn't offer the networking option. Two small concerns keep me from giving this 5 stars instead of 4: (a) there is an OK key on the keyboard right where I would expect a Scroll Down to be; I keep opening a new page or link when all I want to do is move down the page. (b) Because I set the account up using my old WebTV address, that account can't access the Junk Mail or POP mail retrieval options described in the Help section. Tech support (quick but overseas) tells me that change is coming, however. For $100 (after the $100 rebate offer), this is a GREAT DEAL, especially as a second unit in the living room attached to a BIG monitor!
Digital camera Review: PIECE OF 1 Stars
You wudda thunk after all this time- they'd get it right. NO SIR!Unless you can get an old unit (a WEBTV PLUS) - stay away from this and save yourself a lot of aggravation.
