Digital camera Review: GREAT little Internet RECEIVER~ good for seniors who do NOT want a computer~

in 1998 we invested in our first WEBTV~ what a dinosaur it was~ slow and the annoying little song it played while using it~ but we crawled onto the internet~ we moved up to a computer. But my Mother in Law (AROUND)80 loves the MSN 2 unit aka Webtv~ this is her third unit and they last an average of about 4 years.
This unit is faster than earlier models but with a dial up connection~ it is NOT a computer but a "receiver' that allows you to
A. get to your email~ all your emails addresses~have a webtv in them but you can also use a computer and retrieve emails via [...]
2. open many types of files varies by the unit and updates~ but photos received for the user to enjoy.
3. enjoy the internet~
BEST feature EASE of use~ My Mother in law did NOT want a computer and can keep up on emails~ look at the internet and was able to use this in about 30 minutes. SHE loves her MSN 2~

REQUIRES A SUBSCRIPTION~ ABOUT $21 A MONTH FOR SERVICE they have a lower plan but you have *limits* on the time allowed in the lower plan*
what this unit CANNOT do~ on line banking~ lacks ability for huge files~ it is slow compared to a computer~
cannot...PLAY movies~ they require too much memory which this unit lacks~
last one that matters~ NO virus for this receiver~ it is NOT a computer~ it is a receiver~ so no constant updates for virus and software on it like a computer~
I GIVE IT 5 OUT OF 5 FOR EASE OF USE ~ AFFORDABLE INTERNET RECEIVER FOR ANY ONE WHO JUST NEEDS TO GET EMAILS AND WANTS A EASY WAY TO GET IT~ GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE~
they do not make these any more so what ever units are out there will soon disappear so enjoy it while you can~

this works great. i haven't had problems like others clam to have. the only reason i don't need it anymore is i use aim more then msn. since this unit doesnt accept downloads aim and yahoo cant be added. i ended up getting windows xp full version since my ME crashed. its not a bad product. it gets 4 stars only cuz you cant download or update things like flash. if you dont want to spend a ton of money for a 2nd or 3rd computer for only $9.95/month (assuming you have high speed already) its a good alternative. thats what i used it for. 1 more important thing. there are a couple usb ports on the back. you can hook up a usb mouse to it if you like to click on things rather then use the remote.Digital camera Review: Great Product

We've had WebTV for 2 years but it was getting to the point that we couldn't pull up a lot of web pages due to its outdated software so we ordered the new msnTV2. We are happy as clams with it. We can access the internet via phone modem or broadband. It hooks right up to the broadband modem with no problem, automatically configures itself and we were off and running (have patience. The first time you connect, it may take an hour for the modem to configure and connect. Fortunately, we were told to download the msnTV2 update via phone modem before switching to broadband).
We now can do simple tasks like view a web site! On webTV we constantly got, "Page too big to display". We can view some, but not all .pdf documents, we can print with our hp printer which is not a "supported" printer but works great. We can do almost but not quite everything we can do on the internet with a computer. We love the Text Size buttons to enlarge the hard-to-read print. Could do without the "OK" button being below the "Page Down" button. "Back" & "Delete" buttons are in similar spots so I am constantly losing things I'm in the middle of writing that "expire" if you hit "back" when I mean to hit "delete". I'll get the hang of it. The keyboard works way better as far as speed and touch.
My husband prefers msnTV2 over a computer because he can be a lounge lizard with it. I find him napping with the keyboard quite often! It is super fast to turn on & connect - I can google at a moment's notice. And I can chat with a friend in London daily while I'm doing chores around the house much easier than if I was confined to sitting in front of a computer.
We're very satisfied with our (...) investment (after rebate) from the Amazon reseller...and best of all, NO VIRSES, SPYWARE, WORMS, TROJANS ETC ETC to deal with. Whatta deal!
