Digital camera reviews of RCA RC926 Wireless Phone Jack

Digital camera Review: Failed after 2 weeks
Summary: 1 Stars

But I recently switched to quad-play from the cable company -- which put the phone jack (e.g. cable modem) on a different floor of the house from my TV and my TiVo Series 1. This is important because the TiVo Series 1 lacks a network card -- it needs access to a standard phone line. I didn't relish drilling holes and running RJ45 all over the house just to support my TiVo, so I went looking for a wireless phone jack system instead. I bought one of these RCA 926 systems, and it worked brilliantly for about two weeks, and then failed entirely. As far as I can tell, the base station has ceased to transmit, so it's useless. I've gone for the RTX DualJack product instead, which is slightly more expensive but seems to get much better reviews. I'd avoid this product at all costs -- it clearly suffers from numerous design and quality problems. I'm just glad I only spent $21.99 on it.

Digital camera Review: Fine for Satellite Receivers Including Tivos
Summary: 4 Stars

I use the RC926 to add an extra phone jack for my DirecTivos and standalone DirecTV receiver. All three receivers are split off from the extension jack and I have never had a problem with the units making the required service data call.

Edit: I also have DSL but use 2Wire filters (not the generic filters provided by Verizon) for greater clarity. A filter has to be placed between the jack and the wireless BASE unit for the wireless extension unit to function properly with DSL.

Note: Tivos and DirecTivos DO HAVE MODEMS so Rios' title header is somewhat misleading. But the facts in the body of the review are correct. Per Page 10 of RCA's manual (which is available on their website): "Note: The maximum baud rate for the Wireless Phone Jack is 14,400. Best results, however, will be experienced at 9,600." This limitation is why I knocked off a star.

So yes, I would not recommend that you attempt to surf the Internet using this jack or use it for any purpose where a high baud rate is important. But the phone jack is perfectly fine for voice, fax, and satellite receiver use.

Digital camera Review: Five stars -- but only for satellite receiver
Summary: 5 Stars

Seems to work well with my satellite receiver. I have not used it for any other purpose so have no idea how it would work in any other capacity.

Digital camera Review: For voice or fax only, not for modems
Summary: 2 Stars

If you need to add a phone extension without cables or need to hook up a fax machine this product is ok, but for modems and internet connections, your speed will go dooooooown to 9600 or even less.

Digital camera Review: GREAT WIRELESS PHONE JACK
Summary: 4 Stars

This wireless phone jack works great for what we needed. Need one for our DVR receiver with the dish company.
