Digital camera reviews of RCA RP7887 AM/FM Super Portable Radio

Digital camera Review: Good radio...but over-rated
Summary: 3 Stars

I needed a radio so I could pull in WABC-AM in NYC from a distance of about one hundred miles inside the Delaware Valley region. I'm a slave to a certain talk radio show, and I figured that this radio might be the answer when I'm at my country home. It failed....miserably. But amazingly, it managed to pick up stations in Charlotte, (700 miles away), in Chicago, (over 800 miles away), and even once it picked up a station in Arkansas! But these stations were only reached at night. The day time receiving was pathetic. So....it's irratic, and unreliable. It's speaker however is quite nice and it delivers a rich hi-fi sound. Now, I gotta contemplate a CC RADIO.

Digital camera Review: Good shop or office radio but not great.
Summary: 3 Stars

This radio has a decent receiver if you can keep it on frequency. So far not really impressed with it. I can not get it to stay on a station very easily since it drifts. On FM the AFC cures this on strong stations but on AM this is annoying especially if trying to pick up a distant station.

The sound output is good, you can easily hear it when outdoors due to the large speaker. The controls are OK but not good. It seems to be sturdy enough and would work good in a dusty environment due to the controls on the side and not the top.

Also do not use this in a noisy environment it just makes things worse. Tried it at the office here and it just picked up the noise better.

Digital camera Review: Great AM, poor FM
Summary: 3 Stars

Bought this for my Mother to listen to her grandson play local college basketball. These broadcasts are on the AM band and for that it works flawlessly. On FM however the unit suffers from what appears to be front end overload and there are lots of stations mixing and showing up on the dial where they don't belong. Radio is several miles from local high power stations but only a few blocks from several low power religous based stations. I really wanted something simple to operate for her, and in that respect it works fine. If I had to do it over, I think I'd have looked for a smaller digital unit with no memories and better FM performance.

Digital camera Review: Great Item Great Price
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a radio i wanted to buy many years ago when it was put out by GE. I could not afford at the time and when I could I could not find one. I was afraid at first that it was not the same as the GE,but it sure is and I'm very happy I bought it. It's an extra nice radio of high quality and I'm very happy with it. Thank you Amazon!!!!!!

Digital camera Review: Great Performance For Its Price Range
Summary: 5 Stars

These radios have been around in some form or another for over 26 years (under the original GE name). I opted to purchase the RCA Superadio III because most AM/FM radios made today are horrible in sensitivity and Selectivity. Despite the notorious reputation of having a inaccurate dial/tuning and alignment issues the worst was expected; however, when mine arrived I was ready to have to align it and boy was I wrong. AM and FM alignment is dead on; yes it's dead on. The bands where checked against my Grundig G5 and my old trusty DX-440. There may have been some luck but I believe that due to the complaints Thompson has had with these units major improvements in quality control came about. Sadly, these have since been discontinued but they are worth having. Yes it is heavy (which I like), it does not have a digital LCD(not an issue), but it does have booming audio and excellent sensitivity on AM and FM. The build quality is pretty good for it's price. With this in mine I will purchase another one.
