Digital camera reviews of Rain Design mStand - Notebook standDigital camera Review: Computer Stand Summary: 4 Stars
I am happy with this stand but would have liked the front tab pieces that hold the computer to have a slight upward curve so that it held the laptop better.
Digital camera Review: Concening the Cable Hole Summary: 4 Stars
A lot of people have remarked that the cable hole in the back of the stand is too narrow to accommodate external monitor cables (VGA, DVI). I am happy to report that upon removing the stand from the packaging, I immediately noticed the hole is wider. I even made sure my mini display port to DVI cable fits through: it does!
That issue aside, I have 2 other comments.
1) The front flap functions perfectly at holding the computer on the stand. Aesthetically, it's a little crude and mismatches the geometries of my macbook pro. I would be more impressed if the slot on the flat was wider and mimicked the design of apple's front edge and it's wide cutout. The flat disrupts the macbook's clean front line.
2) I wish the top of the stand was at a less aggressive angle. As I type this, my keyboard is underneath my overhanging notebook, and every so often my finger rise up and hit the stand. If there was more clearance, I could position myself closer to the screen.
Overall, I am very happy with the stand. I was surprised to see Rain updated their design, and think they can continue to tweak it.
Digital camera Review: Cool Mac Stand Summary: 5 Stars
This stand looks like it could have been made by Apple. It mimics the sleek aluminum bases that you find on Apple Cinema monitors; is very substantial and looks good in my office.
Digital camera Review: Cool stand for Mac Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these stands. I'm using it for my 17" Mac book both at office and at home. My company bought another product which is black and flat on the top. I gave it to my co-worker and bought one out of my pocket expense.
Digital camera Review: Does its job perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is pretty pricey for a single piece of metal, but it works perfectly. I'm using it with my 15" MacBook Pro (late 2008 "unibody" model), and it lets me angle the screen perfectly when I'm at my desk. It's stable, attractive, and allows easy access to the front latch. I can't imagine a better way to put my laptop into desktop mode without an external monitor.
