Digital camera reviews of Razer DeathAdder 3G Infrared Gaming MouseDigital camera Review: Deathadder vs. the slim Razer mice Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using the Razer Viper(close to similar to all the slim line Razer mice) for a year, which I will be comparing to the Deathadder. I have been using the eXactMat w/ wristrest as well.
The finger positioning is considerably different, the Deathadder slightly raises your 2 front fingers and spreads out your thumb and finger that hold the mouse(speaking as a fingertip user). Although it feels a little bigger the size is a little more comfortable and gives more of a controlled feeling. Also the Deathadder has a very steep slope off of the back of the mouse even though the picture makes it appear like a much larger mouse with a big rear.
The weight of the slim mouse is so light that it couldn't be any lighter without removing essential components, which they may have changed between the different models of their slim mice. While the Deathadder has a distinctly noticeable weight to it, the weight completely disappears when you start using it. The most interesting part of this is that I can have great control of the Deathadder without having my pinky down vs. the slim line mouse which I feel a loss without it down, likely due to the weight and size difference.
The primary buttons both have a very tuned amount of pressure, both are near perfect. The scroll wheel of the Deathadder is my favorite scroll wheel I've ever encounter. The wheel gives you a very controlled feeling with minimal pressure to turn it. The scroll wheel click is right on as well, which will not cause you to turn the wheel while clicking.
The thumb buttons on the inside have a little too much travel for my taste but are undoubtedly usefull and you will not accidently push them while moving the mouse with your thumb on them. They also are mounted up high enough that your thumb can sit underneath them, which is a big negative if you are looking to use these 2 buttons and want to sit your thumb close to the surface, like myself. My Viper has no side buttons but some of the slim line mice do.
Digital camera Review: Decent mouse, but responding correctly anymore. Summary: 3 Stars
Bought two of this mouse almost a year ago for my wife and I. Wife who uses her mouse far more heavily for gaming and general use, has noticed the pointer is not responding or moving correctly when clicking the left button. Either doesn't respond to the click at all, or responds slowly and sticks, most noticeable when trying to highlight text and suddenly a whole paragraph gets highlighted and deleted. Been a nice mouse to have prior to this, but looking at its short lifespan, not worth the expense.
Digital camera Review: Didn't like it in comparison to the Copperhead. Summary: 2 Stars
I know I will be heavily criticized for this review since most on here are positive but I'm just relaying my honest opinions as objectively as possible here.
I owned a Copperhead before I bought this mouse so the weight, thickness and the flatness of the Deathadder were a pretty big difference. This mouse isn't half as nimble as the copperhead because the copperhead has angled edges that allow you to rotate your wrist just slightly when you move the mouse from side to side. It allows you to move the mouse much quicker because you don't have to lift it off the mat at a totally straight angle. You can't do that with the Deathadder because it doesn't have angled edges that taper upwards like the Copperhead. It feels very stiff and slow in comparison.
The tracking also seemed weird to me. There's talk about positive acceleration problems on the razer forums so I think this might have been the reason for it. Basically the mouse felt as though I was moving it through some sort of sludge like there was some weird resistance to the movements. I spent a couple of days tweaking different settings but just couldn't find any that worked for me. The tracking just feels less precise to me than the copperhead.
Problems with the ergonomics: The hump in the back is too highly angled. The wheel in the center is very high up in comparison to the notches in the left and right buttons. The first thumb button is in a very weird position that requires you to stretch your thumb to reach it. Truthfully though I returned this mouse because the tracking just didn't feel right to me. I probably could have lived with the ergonomics otherwise but the tracking just felt off to me no matter how much I tweaked with it.
My hands are about average size but this didn't work for me at all after using a copperhead. I use an icemat and I'm somewhat anal retentive when it comes to having a clean sensitive tracking surface for my mouse (i've bought so many replacement feet for this mouse and have tried several different mousepads). The tracking on the copperhead seems more accurate to me as well at medium sensitivity. The copperhead just feels more comfortable/natural to me and definitely helps with my gaming. Maybe if I'd never used a copperhead I would appreciate the Deathadder more but as it stands I prefer the design of the copperhead even though it's not meant to be an ergonomic mouse.
Digital camera Review: Don't Buy Defective Product and No Returns Summary: 1 Stars
Do not purchase any of the items from razer. First of all, when i purchased this mouse it looks and feels very cheaply made. Its like a KINDERGARDEN TOY. At the same time i purchased a keyboard along with the mouse. When i received the keyboard the page down button was not even attached to the keyboard, the clipping was BROKEN and then the W key for the keyboard DID NOT WORK. I asked for a refund sinec i purchased the product through Razer.
They made it difficut to refund. The first email i sent out was March 10, 2010 and now it is March 22, 2010 and they still have not given me a RMA number after i requested it FIVE TIMES. This is ridiculous. I will be submitting a DISPUTE to the credit card company.
Digital camera Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
My parents got me this mouse for a Christmas present in 09. I had a friend who had one, and I wanted a high-quality mouse for cheap. This one turned out to be really good! My hand no longer aches since my hands now sits over the mouse instead of cupping the entire thing. Also, since I mostly browse the web, I have the extra buttons set to switch tabs and refresh the page. It's a good product for the price and a good product all around.
