Digital camera reviews of Recoton Fiber Optic Toslink to 3.5mm Mini AdapterDigital camera Review: 200% Satisfied ! Summary: 5 Stars
Used to connect the "mini spdif" plug on my HP Pavillion dv 6400 to the optical Super CD toslink [...] input on my Sony STP-k9900p home theatre system (Dolby 5.1). Mini refers to the speaker jack size (like the green speaker plug for any PC). SPDIF refers to the protocol used over the optical connection. Using Amazon's select similar or related search (or whatever it's called) I also bought two 12 foot cables (cables4less) and a toslink to toslink cable connector. 3 separate suppliers, one purchase from Amazon - how neat. I ended up with a 24 foot connection from laptop to home theatre system that reaches every seat in the living room. AND IT WORKS and SOUNDS GREAT. You should hear how good even Pandora.com sounds! I don't mind paying $5-$6 for parts and $20+ for S&H for something I can't buy locally. I got what I wanted. Also, at many places you'll pay $30+ for just one 12 foot cable. All three packages were shipped promptly and arrived within 1 week. (Good job Amazon). The jack, connector and cablesare all top quality. Cable ends have protective caps attached to the ends to keep the optical end clean. The cap for the laptop end reaches to cover the mini spdif plug when it is not in the laptop.
Digital camera Review: A simple fix Summary: 5 Stars
Great way to use a cable you have but needs different end with mini jack 2.5 mm like the Mac Mini computer sound out and sound in. Simple to use no electronics just passes light.
Digital camera Review: Another great item purchased Summary: 5 Stars
This adapter has changed my audio experience forever from my mac....at that price I got an extra for someone else of if anything should happen to the first one. Using it to play music through a 5.1 Polk audio system. Its light years better than the previos analog connection!
Digital camera Review: Bad luck I guess Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased this adapter in an attempt to connect my new HTPC to my receiver. I was a little disconcerted by the bit of clear plastic that extends from the end of the plug when the TOSLINK cable is inserted into the adapter (not to be confused with the protective plastic covering). It protrudes maybe an 1/8 of an inch and seems very fragile. I can't really tell if it is supposed to be there from the pictures provided by Amazon. Anyway, the adapter w/o the cable fit easily into my HTPC's optical out but required more force than I'm comfortable with when the TOSLINK cable was attached. After configuring the digital out, I didn't get any sound. Tried with my MacBook Pro and no sound. Interestingly, the bit of plastic and the small metal coupler can be removed--but this configuration didn't work either. Hopefully I haven't damaged my audio ports with that additional bit of plastic.
Digital camera Review: Damaged my MacBook Pro's audio jack. Summary: 1 Stars
This adapter works, but the build and quality are bad. Others complained that the size of their adapter was too small. Unfortunately, mine was way too big. I inserted it into my MacBook Pro's audio out jack, and it somehow damaged something inside. Now regular 3.5 mm analog audio devices (e.g. my apple earphones) fit very loosely and do not make a clicking sound when inserted. This product does not follow the most basic of standards of shape and dimension for a product like this.
Also, even though the image depicts two adapters, the price shown is only for one adapter.
