I watch DVDs and digital TV using a Mac Mini computer, which requires a TosLink if you desire to have optical audio signal (I'm not an audiophile, but feel like optical sound is much more clean).
PROS
This adapter does the trick quite well to convert the Mac's headphone-jack optical output to a regular optical line connector.
Sound quality is great. (my system is consists of a 5 channel Yamaha receiver and a Polk audio speaker system and powered subwoolfer)
CONS
Seems a little weak, but I suppose that's the problem with combining the regular headphone jack with the optical like as the optical piece that goes in has to be thin. You have to be careful how you hook the line up so there is not too much tension.
Seems kind of cheaply made, but again it works and costs only $2.
Overall I am happy for this inexpensive alternative to the much more expensive "authentic" Toslink adapter.

I purchased 4 of these adapters (3 extra) so I could hook up my macbook's digital output for digital surround sound through my Logitech speakers. The product works exactly as I expected... great digital sound from my macbook. Parts Express did an excellent job of getting my order to me sooner than I expected (ordered on a Saturday, and they had the package to the courier by Saturday night.) Very prompt service... This little adapter allows me to hook the MacBook Pro up to the surround sound at home and abroad. Now if only more downloadable content had a surround track included.
