I use this for my Mac Mini with the digital out. Works great hooked up to a stereo receiver with awesome, clear sound. The only downside to using on a Mac, it disables the internal sound volume controls when a digital out adapter/cable is plugged in. You'll have to control the volume from the receiver all the time. I needed this to connect my Logitech Z-5500 speakers via the Optical output on my Sounblaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card. (Why does Creative skimp and use a 3.5mm "flex plug" for optical out??) The adapter diminishex the light level to the point that the sound quality is effected. I have since gone back to the analog connections.Digital camera Review: Great!

This little thing cost so little, but it did it's job perfectly. It is better quality than the one I got with my sound board that broke within 1 hour. This also has a gold plated tip for better connection.
Every item I have ever purchased from Amazon has been 100%. Never a need for RMA.

Seriously, these things aren't easy to find. Amazon has them at a good price and you'll need it if you have a MacBook Pro or any other Mac with an optical in/out capability. I'd also recommend that you'd buy MORE than one, as they're not the hardest things to lose.
I bought three just in case, and I have a feeling that I might need more... :D
Amazon made it super easy to find, by the way.

Having discovered that the 3.5mm audio out port also supports digital optical was a wonderful revolution. Naturally I instantly ordered a pair of these adapters to connect to an optical cable I already owned. It arrived very quickly in good condition. Just as advertised, I simply snapped them onto the end of an optical cable and plugged it into my computer. Beautiful. Now I can get 5.1 soundtracks while watching DVDs or ripped content on my mac.
P.S. Price is great too!
